Q: What is in the core? Could I sew through this? Or would it break my sewing needle?

There is 200 feet of rope and the core is rope. The whole package is rope. I have made many baskets with this product and have never broken a needle. This is a very good product.

Q: 13 pounds maximum load? Really? That's not much wet laundry.

I haven't had any laundry break mine after a year or more. But, I'm only stretching mine about 20 ft.
