Epic storytelling
The world building in this series is amazing, but the brass ring so to speak, is the character development. When the series started, I absolutely was blown away with Joe Court, a young detective that had overcome so much strife and adversity to work her way through the ranks in her chosen Sheriff's department. Five books in and I am in awe of the growth of this character, at the beginning she was stunted socially and emotionally, think female lead of Bones tv series, and now she is coming out of her self imposed protective shell and is emerging as an improved version of herself and I can't stop reading. The attention to detail she exhibits in her cases have put others off but now they are seeing behind her security walls to the real her and these stories are taking a whole new range of depth to them.No topic is off limits, and the crimes are no holds barred as well, these are such extremely well written stories, I can guarantee that I will be reading them multiple times.

Good Police Procedural
Another nicely done Joe Court series novel. There's a main story and a secondary, less publicized story within. The primary is solved, and the secondary has the reader looking at somewhat of a cliffhanger. What I found refreshing is Joe has given up some of her whiney ways in this installment. Though I have to say there were too many secondary characters involved. The ending, I felt, was slightly flat. There seemed to be a guilty party almost appearing from obscurity and stepping into the story.A good solid read, but not my favorite Joe Court book. Looking forward to starting the next one.

Wowsa! What a great series! Start reading it and you won't be sorry! Except for losing sleep and chores getting neglected.
Each book with Joe gets better. She has principles, a damaged past, but is growing personally. Am somewhat confused ... mini almost spoiler ..that her relationship with her boss hasn't been addressed recently. In earlier books (sorry I can't be exact), he was ready to kick her to the curb, seemed to almost play with her career. In this book, there was no snarkiness and he almost comes across as supporting her. Don't get me wrong, am glad he's respectful and supportive, but why did he change? Most of the time men in power with bad attitudes do not easily mature. Especially since he was such an ass and ignored her advice frequently. But, he's not the main character, so I'll move along!! Right into the next book!!

You’ll be hooked after the first page!
When I started this series, I thought the first book, “The Girl in the Motel”, was going to be the best. I was sure the following books in the series could not measure up. I was wrong. I am currently on #7, “The Girl Who Told Stories”. They keep getting better and better. Just love Joe, and cannot wait to see what happens next. The stories are so well thought out and well written. The only sad part…it appears there are only 9 of these books in the series. Come on Chris Culver…we are gonna need MORE!Keep them coming!

Maybe best of the Joe Court series so far
Like the previous books in this series I found this very readable. Good story, well told. And unlike the previous books there are fewer Joe Court's tiresome "woe is me" passages. The ending is a bit of a twist. One question, though. What is Culver's obsession with crossing arms? It seems to be his go-to gesture for his characters. "I crossed my arms." "He looked at me and crossed his arms." "She leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms." Really? Perhaps it's a Missouri thing. A good Chris Culver while-you-read drinking game would be to take a drink every time a character crosses his or her arms.Anyway, other than that I've enjoyed the books and will cross my arms and read more of them. I also look forward to more Ash Rashid books.

Another great Joe Court book
I can't say too much about this book without giving away the story. Suffice to say I was engrossed in the interweaving stories and just thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. My reading choices are the likes of James Patterson, Lee Child and Ian Rankin, and Chris Culver's books are, for me, in that same class.

Chris Culver is a readers writer
The story had a fast pace without signaling what was to come.
