The Scourge

Thought provoking message
I love the plot of this book! I first read it as a teenager and even then it surprised me. The mysteries kept unraveling and plot twists just kept coming. There's a happy ending where everything works out and the main characters prevail. But the journey there really gets your mind going. The premise of a disease that people can be asymptomatic for and still spread to others relates at this time like no other. In my opinion, it's also a cautionary tale to respect your leaders, but also to not trust them blindly.

The Scourge
What first drew me to this book was that is was written by Jennifer A. Neilson, and secondly the intriguing plot. I love science fiction and fantasy! And The Scourge is amazing! It was very interesting and engaging, and I just love the characters! It is almost as good as the Ascendance series. Ani and Jaron are very much alike, except she's a girl and he's a boy;) It's a very relatable setting, with a disease and everything. Also brings memories of The Maze Runner. I only wish there was a sequel, or that this was a series instead of a stand-alone. I just love Jennifer A. Neilson, I have read her Ascendance series and A Night Divided, this is the sixth book i have read from her. She is one of my top favorite authors. Anyway, The Scourge is definitely one of my top favorite books and comes highly recommended for kids 12 and up!

Nielsen is a fantastic page turner
The Scourge by Jennifer A. Nielsen is a fantastic page turner. Much like Jennifer made me fall in love with The False Prince (still one of our most loved series even in 7th), I too fell in love with Ani and Weevil and the trouble they cause. This is an accessible book, many reading confidences will be able to get sucked in and stay sucked in as the action springs from page to page, and yet, it is also a book that speaks of human relationships, of deep commitments to each other. My only disappointment with this book is that it is not a series; I would have loved for the story to keep on going because it is that good.

Good book
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. But you need to be patient because the start of the story makes you think "what?" . You want to put it down but don't it's well worth reading and I think you will enjoy it.

This was a very great book. Can't describe how much I loved it! It never kept me bored, always suspenseful. Recommend it strongly. I applaud! A MUST read!😍👏🏻 Also if you do enjoy it recommend "A Night Divided" by the same author.

Good fun
I bought this because I loved the False Prince (Ascendance Trilogy). It has a heroine not a hero, and although she is almost as cheeky as Jared she is genuinely one of the underclass River People. When she and her best friend are falsely accused of having the Scourge and shipped off to an island to die with the rest they need all their wits and friendship to survive and find out what is really going on.Scourge is a lot of fun, and races along, but it lacks the heady brilliance of The False Prince. Also good for 11+ but it's annoying that Neilsen brought a bit of Romance in towards the end.
