Excellent with an asterisk
First, the asterisk: if you are a survivor of any sort of sexual assault or have lost a child in any way, you might not be able to handle the themes and scenes in this book. Having said that, this was one of the best books I've read in a long time. I had a hard time putting it down, and attempted to read it while cooking dinner, which I never do. It is very well written and intriguing, and the way the author tells the story makes it into a mystery that I was eager to figure out. The reveals, when they come, are perfectly placed, and the denouement is very satisfying. Yes, there is a lot of sadness and suffering in this book and the characters all have their foibles, but it comes across as very real, and the main characters are likeable in spite of, or because of, their flaws. I would have given it 4 stars and said I would round up to 4 and a half, but in the end, I liked it too much for that. It's not War and Peace, but for this genre it is superb. When I finish this review I will be buying another book by this author immediately!

Interesting and Quick Read
While there are some things in this book that could be a trigger for some, it was still a pretty good read. Easy to read. Easy to like the characters and relate to them. Couple things I would have wrapped up, but still a good ending.

Interesting story
I found this book to be interesting. It dragged a bit until I was almost halfway through it. I did not care for the author's choice of using letters to reveal the back story.

Shame, blame or tell the truth..take the journey.
Linda Green has done a wonderful job weaving the stories of four generations of women and illuminating how social morals and attitudes can have a devastating effect on the lives we lead. These stories will tug at your emotions...regret, anger, pain BUT also inspire you and give you hope at the same time. How much are you willing to sacrifice to hide or find the truth? Knowing it can possibly hurt those near and dear to you, which would you choose? Hide or reveal the truth? This book will intrigue you and touch your soul. The stories are so true to life. It was hard to put the book down. Take the journey!!!

A hard read
I didn't expect the story to become so dark but it was so riveting I couldn't put it down. Be ready with tissues

Heartwrenching
A heartwrenching story of generations of pain and the importance of not bearing our secrets alone. This story shows the beauty of relying of loved ones to help carry emotional burdens and help us heal.

I loved this book
When I first started reading this book I thought it was going to be boring. It was anything but boring. So many secrets. This book was so well written. I will definitely read other books by this author. I highly recommend this book.

A very absorbing book and I read it in just one day.
4 stars. This was the first book of Green's that I've read. It came on my radar as it was the Spring 2019 selection of the Richard and Judy (UK) Book Club. It is a story of secrets and shame and how it affects everyone in a family, even through generations. Nicola is at her Grandmother's bedside as she was dying and was told that there were babies in the bottom of the garden. She goes to the garden and realizes that the two statues of fairies at the bottom of the garden where she used to play might be significant. When her young daughter Maisie finds a "fairy" bone, Nicola realizes that maybe there was more than the ravings of a dying woman and she calls in the police. Tiny bones are found and an investigation begins. Her Mum becomes very angry at this and cuts all ties with Nicola and her family. What secrets is she hiding? Whose bones are they? What does her Mum know and what was her Grandmother hiding? Why is someone trying to stop her from finding out? What happens when secrets won't stay buried? This was a very absorbing book and I read it in just one day.

Brilliant Read
This is the first book of Linda Green's I've read, and has to be one of the most moving storylines I've ever read. It was a rollercoaster of heartbreak and emotion, but tinged with questions/sayings of an innocent 8 year old which made me smile and laugh too. So beautifully written, it was a joy to read and I would highly recommend to others.

The Last Thing She Told Me
Did not like it very much; story was at times a bit boring. But I don't have it in my heart to give less than 5 stars :/
