Another wonderful Highland Guards Romance!
Another wonderful Highland Guard romance by Monica McCarty. This is the story of Robbie Boyd, the strongest man in Scotland, also know as "The Raider". He has suffered much under the English rule. His father and brother were both killed and his sister abused badly enough to take her own life. He followed Wallace until his death and then transferred his loyalty to The Bruce. The story begins with Robbie in the custody of Robert the 1st Baron de Clifford also know as "Cliff". He is one of the fiercest of England's nobles. Cliff's sister, Rosalin Clifford (16 years old) is in Scotland visiting her brother and witnesses the treatment of the Scottish prisoners. She aches for them and tries to help by leaving food where they are able to find it. She notices that one of the prisoners had a tendency to 'look out for' the others. She finds herself drawn to him. When her brothers men find the extra food they throw Robbie in the "pit". It is from there that Rosalin helps him to escape. Robbie is able to alert his two closest friends and the three of them leave together. Rosalin thinks of Robbie for the next 6 years and fancies herself in love with him. Rosalin and her brother's oldest son were captured by Robbie and his men during a raid and become prisoners, held for ramsom. Ms. McCarty has a wonderful way of telling the story so that the characters jump out of the story and become almost real. The plots kept me turning the pages long ager bed time. I am already looking forward to the next book, The Arrow!

Enjoy!
I really enjoyed the novel. Wish I would've read the other books in the series cause I feel it would've made it even better but it is a good novel stand alone also

Another Winning Sequel
Often a series can start out with such promise and Monica McCarty surely did that with the Chief, and then fizzles out with each of the subsequent installment. With the Highland Guard series Ms. McCarty has delivered book after book, and character after character that SIZZLE. This latest installment was exceptional. I loved how the hero (Robert Boyd) and heroine (Rosalin Clifford) met and how the dynamic of their relationship developed. She didn’t make it easy for either of them, and the journey toward happiness was hard fought on both sides. His jaded bigotry and the past evils that reinforced his hate could have made Raider a man who could not be saved. His partner Dragon thought there was no way to get past that hate. The relationship between the two men added to the depth of both characters and has me already waiting for Dragon’s happy ending.Rosalin was not so easily convinced that he was a lost cause. Thank GOD for that. I think her innocents made it easier for her to believe that there was nothing that could not be overcome. The passion between the two was sweet at first and then artfully the heat was turned up with each new chapter until a white hot blaze burned between the two. The tenderness described will melt your heart.I would definitely recommend this book and in fact all the books in this series!!!
