Devil's Due (Thomas Caine Thrillers Book 1)

" My name is Caine....Thomas Caine" and it all works very well
Devil's Due is a short novella which serves as a prequel to the upcoming novel Tokyo Black the first in an upcoming series featuring ex CIA operative Thomas Caine exiled from the service and hiding from his past in a remote city in Thailand where he gets involved in exposing a gang of ruthless human traffickers operating in the mountains of Thailand. The book is a page turner, intelligently written with strong echoes of Ian Fleming's original James Bond series which could have served as a model here as well as some conscious noir traditions from Hammett and Chandler. One is also on occasion reminded of the films of Walter Hill whose narrative frequently owes allegiance to the same literary models. The twist is that Thomas Caine operates as a stranger in a strange land in the far off cities and jungles of Thailand which the author describes in great and interesting detail which adds an appealing atmospheric density to the narrative. The action is swift and intense, the story simple but intelligent and well put together. My favorite part is the many supporting characters that Caine encounters in his adventure which are sharply drawn, original, all of them interesting, all with their own stories creating the dense world that Caine inhabits. In short a thoroughly enjoyable read that bodes well for the upcoming release of Caine's next adventure.

"Devil's Due: Not Sure This Book Worked for Me"
I listened to the Audible audio version of this book.Devil's Due was hard for me to follow with the character's voices being a odd. I think it would've been better had it been narrated differently. I couldn't tell if the female voice was dubbed in or if the reader was speaking it. Along with that the accents were an unnecessary distraction. This may be a better read than listen. To separate them out, the story fell somewhere in the middle for me. it was okay. The narration by Bryan L. Anderson seemed awkward but that's not saying I didn't like his natural voice. I think he has a wonderful voice without having to change it. He speaks clearly and has a nice tone. I'd listen to him again. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.

Three star addition to a popular genre
Another addition to the "retired super agent dragged back into the life he's trying to leave behind" genre, with the usual weapons cache from his former life and fighting skills that need no training to stay at peak readiness. Throw in hints of a tortured past, a hooker with a heart of gold, and an eager and doomed assistant. A couple examples of the writer being in love with an idea even if it doesn't make sense, like the time the protagonist attacked a numerically superior force while he was holed up in a shack with only one door, only to shoot a hole in the back wall to escape, which meant he had to jump over the hole in the floor he climbed through to get into the shack in the first place.

My new hero
I love this genre and I've found a new hero.

Mask and cape not required.
Thailand lore is steeped in the supernatural, especially devils. One only has to look at the prevalence of distorted devil masks in national feasts to gather this truth. And when a fiendish real life Burmese legend crosses the path of an erstwhile assassin turned small time smuggler, Caine, it does not take much to figure out there will be the devil to pay.A novela, Andrew Warren packs a lot of action into this fast moving thriller set in the exotic locale of Pattaya, Thailand. A great introduction to a new if slightly damaged crusader for the underdog. Enjoy.

A prequel to Promising series
AUDIBLE EDITIONWhere does Devil's Due rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far? It's entertaining. Thomas Caine will become the next Jason Bourne, James Bond. What other book might you compare Devil's Due to and why? Some come to mind, the Ian Fleming Bond books, which are classics, for instance. What about Bryan L. Anderson’s performance did you like?A good theatrical performance, building excitement, believabilty in giving life to individual players. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?Saving kidnapped victims in exotic locales.Any additional comments? This was a well done audio presentation. A good introduction to some new characters and unique settings.Truly enjoyed listening. Thanks for providing the audiobook for review!I must mention that my first review for this title was lost somehow in Audible la la land. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.

Hero
The author grabbed me at the preview. Good guy gone bad, trying to do a good deed. Trouble you already know I'll follow. I really liked the character Caine. Mr. Warren did a great job selling him to me.Do not understand why Caine is placed in Asian areas. Both the short story and Tokyo Black are in an area unfamiliar and uninteresting to me. I skimmed thru all of that description to get to the 'meat'. So bravo for the story, but let's get Caine out of those far East areas.

Great for Teacher fans
I've spent the last few months reading series featuring protagonists like Thomas Caine including books by Brad Thor and Vince Flynn. I guess I was looking for something to read between Jack Teacher novels. I think I may have found it. I'm going to the second novel just hoping it's as good as this opening novella.

Take a chance! This is worth it!
Loved this novella and intro to Thomas Caine! I’m usually not a fan of the novella, but this one is action packed, fast moving, and well-written, and I will definitely read the series!

Thailand, the Russian Mafia and Thomas Caine !
Thomas is another of those x military of average height, with arms and back rippled with muscle beneath everything hard and angular with a buzzed military short hair. The story starts off in Thailand with a bomb going off killing the innocent and Thomas quietly sitting in a bar where he has to intervene two Russian mafia Alexi Rudov and a huge man called Gregor who are threatening his bar owner girlfriend.Things go well and he sees them off but that only starts a chain of events when she is kidnapped and taken away with other girls to be drugged and sold as high priced call girls. Thomas is a man who has skills and has been trained to operate invisibly off grid and leaving no sign of his presence. He is the wrong man to mess with or take his girlfriend or try to threaten hm.I loved the Thai connection, the storyline and also of course Thomas Caine. A great read a great storyline and I believe a start of something to look forward to in future books!

Drilling thriller!
A fast paced thriller, full of action. A wanted ex CIA agent gone into hiding, fighting his own interior demons, gets involved in a rescue mission. Vile and interesting characters. A pull to read the rest of the series.

Simply Superb
Simply Superb. I was quite surprised and thrilled at how much that Andrew Warren has packed into this attention grabbing 134 page story. Thomas Caine fits perfectly into the tough guy mould, with plenty of experience and background to back it up. He will definitely be a character that I will enjoy following. This is a clever story, with a great balance between a well thought out plot, and some great action scenes. Thomas Caine is quite happy keeping to himself, and living a relatively quiet life. Especially after his former life with the CIA, which was not so relaxed. He thought Thailand would be a good place to lay low and make some money to survive. There are those that think he might have some special abilities, and suggest to a local policeman that he ask Caine to help him look into some bar girls that have disappeared, and initially Caine turns him down as he would rather not get involved. It’s not until one of his good friends suddenly also disappears that he changes his mind. Caine is right at home in the world of death and violence, and he isn’t one to give up easily. This is a tense and gripping Action Thriller that is definitely worth a read.
