Recently purchased this to replace a broken  OXO Good Grips 4-Cup Fat Separator  that we had used for some time. The Catamount model is made of good quality materials but to a poor design. If you fill it to anything the like full capacity indicated by the measures on the side of the jug, you get a mini fountain of hot scalding liquid when you pull the stopper out of the spout. When it's in the spout, it is not easy to get a grip on the stopper and pull it out, This compounds the mini fountain problem. Even then, after all that, the silicone fitting on the end of the spouts impedes a good clean flow. We used it twice and gave up on it.

The gravy at Thanksgiving was perfect because of this amazing fat separator. It usually takes a long time to make the gravy on Thanksgiving and with all the other last minute preparations it always added a lot of stress but I put the imperfect gravy along with the fat that I didn't have time to remove and perfect gravy poured out of the spout. The lumpy stuff was strained out when I poured it into the top strainer and was tossed out before anyone saw it.

I had plastic one before...this is glass cleans easy, must have to make gravy...soup etc.

Also have a smaller separator. Both do exactly what they should. Very sturdy and a good value.

Reordered. Broke my last one.

After Thanksgiving I decided to add the separator to my gadgets. It came and I should have tested it first with water (my bad). After letting the drippings cool off I poured the through the sieve thinking that I was really on my way to making the perfect chicken gravy. The juices poured out of the container where the spout is attached. What a mess!!!! It ran all over my counter and I was getting other things off the counter to keep the mess in one area, it did not work. This item was not cheap, but I thought it looked like a good one. DO NOT BUY!
