Life Story of the Buddha
An excellent book giving a complete life story of the Buddha from his first aspiration of becoming a Buddha until Buddha’s final passing away attaining the final bliss of Nibbana. This is not just a life story of the Buddha but a detailed description of the life events and an easy to understand explanation of the teachings that fits the story. To any reader, just a glance through the sub topics and picking up a topic of interest would generate such an interest in reading more. It displays the thorough knowledge and the ability of the author, the most venerable Kiribathgoda Gnanananda, in generating the interest in you to read more about the Buddha and the teachings. The deep dhamma topics explained in a simple manner with quotes from the Pali canon is like reading a few hundred discourses and their commentaries. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in knowing the life story and about what the Buddha taught the world.

I do not question the sincerity of the venerable monastic, his wisdom, knowledge and intention, but this Dharma offering is nothing more than a book of direct quotes from the Pali canon.Better by far is Ven. Narada's the Buddha and his Teachings and Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi's In the Buddha's Words.

A book that changed my life!
I was gifted this book at my first "Dana" for the kind monks at the Mahamevnewa Monastery, whose founder, The Most Venerable Kiribathgoda Gnananda Thera, is the author of this very enlightening and thoroughly researched book on the life and unsurpassed teaching of Gautama Buddha. Step by step it leads the uninitiated reader, (like myself, a newcomer to Buddhism), to the wise teaching of the supreme Buddha; but I am convinced, that its depth will excite the devout Buddhist alike. From the First Prophecy and the Birth of Buddha to the well known Four Noble Truths and to Buddha's attainment of the Final Bliss of Nibbana, this well written book is one of the most convincing and wonderfully detailed introduction to Buddhism. Sadhu! to the author. And Sadhu! to its readers. A MUST READ to all who believe in a loving-kinder world: the Noble Dhamma - (Truth) - of the Buddha.

A bit repeatative, more mythical than facts
The book deals with the life and teachings of the Buddha. But it is very repeatative, filled with mythical stories rather than actual facts. It is very difficult to churn out the actual happenings from these mythical stories. Yet, when the book came to the teachings of the Buddha it was very rational and engaging. The book only gets interesting after 33%.To read the life of a man, who was rational in his approach to his life, full of mythical stories and non sensible things is really disheartening.

Probably the Best Book Ever Written On the Life of Buddha!
I can confidently say that this is one of the best books ever written about the life and teachings of Buddha. The book is divided into three parts that meticulously detail his life prior to attaining Buddhahood, his life following his enlightenment, and his teachings known as The Dhamma. The content of the book is rooted in the ancient Pali canon, the earliest collection of Buddha's teachings. Through its pages, the reader gains a profound insight into the universe of Buddha and his teachings. As someone read lots of books about Buddha and his teachings I can easily say the level of detail and comprehensiveness presented in this book easily surpasses any prior works on the subject.I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone new to Buddhism and seeking a reliable source to learn about the story and teachings of Buddha. In a world where countless false teachings and stories are propagated daily, falsely attributed to Buddha, this book stands as a beacon of authenticity and knowledge.

The best book to learn about Buddha
This book definitely fills the gap for the English reader to learn about the life and the nature of Buddha. The book has been written with great care. The content comes from exceptionally in depth surveys from Buddhist canons. The author has undoubtedly avoided addition, interpretation or stating his personal views in the book to help reader to access original material. Great work.
