They are sturdy plastic brackets that you slide under the shingle on the roof line of your house.

Q: Can these hooks be used to slide between roof and shingle and hold the "mini: light icicles? I'm desperate I am ruining my shingles.

They fit nicely between the starter row of shingles and the roof decking or drip edge. However, if you're going to hang the mini icicles, you would have to be creative and slip the hanging strands through the holes. How are you ruining your shingles now?
