Excellent overview
I've been reading and pondering and applying philosophy for decades, and I recently read this book as a quick review. In my opinion, the author did an excellent job of breaking down this array of topics into well-written bite-size pieces.Very broadly, we learn that philosophy explores questions related to the nature of reality, how we can form beliefs and learn, how we should live our lives, and how we should organize our societies. The general conclusions are: the nature of reality is mysterious and, to better understand reality, we need to augment armchair philosophy by drawing on the physical and human sciences; we can learn and form better models of reality in various ways, but we can't be certain of anything; a 'good life' requires a sensible mix of many ingredients related to how we view and treat ourselves, and engage or not engage with the rest of the world; and society is best organized to enable a balance of individual freedom and social order, without excessive corruption or unjust inequality.

Deep Thinking, Highly Abridged
A good quick overview covering the evolution of western schools of philosophy with a couple of nods to the east. The approach is often biographical, identifying the main individual or individuals behind each philosophical position along with a short summary of their key ideas, more breadth than depth but a useful roadmap nonetheless. The form factor is quite small, about 5”x 5”, and half of the 406 pages are impressionistic illustrations which I found surprisingly relaxing and contemplative, an effective presentation technique. The entire series of books from Quercus is quite well done. This one is definitely worth owning.

I thought this book was a very good introduction to some of the basic ideas and concepts in philosophy. Though each concept was summarized very briefly, I felt like they explained a majority of the core points very well for the most part. I did not often feel like the short length of each idea sacrificed an adequate summary of the concept. In addition, the summarizes were very clear and easy to understand. This has been a very good way for me to get a solid understanding of some major philosophical ideas I had been curious about for a long time and has encouraged me to take my search further and discover more things to consider.I feel like this book was a very good starting point for me in my discovery of philosophy. It has been integral to my learning process and helped me realize how intriguing and beneficial philosophical thought is. Branching out and finding a starting point to finding philosophy as important to my life now wouldn't have been so easy without this book. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in philosophy but isn't sure where to begin.

It's all Greek to some folks!
For what it is, a mini basic guide for reference, it's a great little book. Not intended l guess as a study took as such but it includes all the obscure ideals and philosophies that you've never heard of before. Does what it says on the description so for that reason l recommend it.
