favorite childhood story
This is the story of 3 girls, 3 dolls, 2 families, 2 houses, an aunt, a librarian, and some roller skates. I read this book too many times to count in the second grade, & I'm now buying it for my daughters (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). For anyone who has ever wondered about the neighbors or what it would be like to have a large family, a lot of money, but not both at the same time, or for anyone who remembers or wants to know what children did when toys were powered only by imagination, this is the book you want. Ms. Godden had the dynamics of young girls' relationships, coping skills, & personality differences nailed decades before anyone thought of queen bees or wanna be's. I read a great many books growing up, but none rang so true or was so much fun as this story. A classic.

I loved it as a kid
I loved it as a kid, and loved it all over again. If you have a doll-loving, rough and tumble girl in your life, this (along with The Story of Holly and Ivy) is a perfect gift.

Another childhood favorite
too ad-to my collection. Ok condition, again the seller stated this, so no surprise here. Was hard to find at a low price and they had it. Came on time. Lovely story for little girls who are into dolls and doll houses. Getting the follow up book.

Loved this book as a child
I adored this book as a kid, and ordered it just for nostalgia. I reread it while waiting at the doctor's office, and it is just as good of a children's book as I remembered.

Delighful Children's story
Written in lovely language and has a good plot storyline for cross-cultural understandings, suitable for reading aloud to 5-year olds, or for 9 year olds to read for themselves.

A good book for children interested in realistic emotion and interactions
A good book for children interested in realistic emotion and interactions. Rumer Godden doesn't sugarcoat childhood. Her characters ring true: both good intentions and selfish feelings, both misunderstandings and redemptive action in every book. As a child I enjoyed Little Plum for the superhuman patience of the main characters, alongside beautifully detailed craft ideas and observations about children and dolls.

Great Book!
My daughter, aged 6, loved this book. She loved the first book in the series, Miss Happiness and Miss Flower, and was thrilled to get this continuation of the story. She learnt a lot about Japanese ways as well as about how odd grown ups can be sometimes, and just loved everything about the book. We read it to her at bed-time, but she reads it to herself as well. A perfect book, but do get the first book first so that this one makes proper sense.

Beautiful book awakening beautiful memories
This book was part of my childhood. I read the sister book to this to my six-year-old daughter, Miss Happiness and Miss Flower, and we loved it. So to find a copy of Miss Plum, and in the same original edition, was a delight. Thank you.

Arrived in a timely manner
Personal use - an old childhood favourite. Slightly more damaged than I was expecting, but it was not for a gift so it did not matter.

one of my favourite books...
I loved this book as a child - if you have read and enjoyed Miss Happiness and Miss Flower then you'll like this one too. It's based around the same family but from a different angle. So many of Rumer Godden's books are gems and this is too. My other favourite is In this House of Brede - but that's for adults.
