Disappointing
I had expected more information about the earlier lives of the characters we know. I only recognised Peggy and Jack and the Pargetters, but apart from that I felt it was a slow read with not much happening and I was very disappointed. I see it is Volume 1 so there may be other books to come but I won’t be bothering with them.

Got this for my mother in law for Mother's Day and she absolutely loved it.

Don't know
I listened to the Archers as a very little girl before I knew what I was listening to and as I grew it was every evening and looked forward to hearing the story of everyday country folk, I even listened when I went to live in Germany over forces radio. This may be the problem I now have as this story is before it came to the radio and I only know Dan and Doris and Walter sorry I can't at the moment get into the book

A Good Read for Ambridge Fans
Well-written, fun story-line. At times hilarious, at times heart-rending. Some nice back stories for well-known (and for more shadowy) characters. A good, light-hearted read for Ambridge fans, which I found quite compelling.

Great prequel
Beautifully written and great for supplying the back story for some much-loved characters. I'm looking forward to reading the next episode, as there is still quite a gap between the end of this book and the beginning of the radio serial.

Bambridge Memories
Fun book, enjoyable read. Another Archers book added to my collection. It reminded me of the wonderful characters that got me into the Archers 50+ years ago.

Much more than just a simple celebration of The Archers
Whether you already loved the world's longest-running soap opera for decades or you never listened to a single episode before... this book is for you! A skillfully written period piece containing a cast of deep, believable characters. A bit of everything that counts: love, sex, war, a mystery or two and many surprising twists and turns along the way. Each chapter chronicles a month in the Ambridge calendar and plot lines develop over time. So it's just like the Archers you know from years of listening to the radio but in a bleaker setting, a darker tone, a rougher world. Death is everywhere. Death and love...
