It’s usual plastic plates, not wheat straw.

It seems like a lot of people bought these for cat food, well so did I. These little plates are great for serving small meals to my pet, they would also make great snack plates for kids, play sets, or party food. They have kind of a light dry grass/hay smell (not unpleasant) to them, and while you can see specks of what I assume are the wheat grass in the material, it does mostly seem like plastic.Cleanup is a breeze. They have held up great in the dishwasher, they fit perfectly into the small plate rack and come clean even though the lip of the plate seems like it might restrict waterflow. My favorite part of these is that the material is somehow non-stick, the leftover sauce and food flakes from my cats dinner will dry up and easily peel off when I scrape them. If I do the same with my ceramic plates I will have to chip away at it with a fork, so the ease of cleanup is a huge unexpected bonus.

Bought this based on a review from another user who said it was perfect for cat wet food. They were absolutely right!Nothing fancy, but far from flimsy these plates are a great alternative for me as I have 4 cats that eat wet food 2x a day and this allows me to just put the dishes in the dishwasher without much fuss. They are holding up well to dishwasher use and have not warped.As far as using it for humans.... It's a fine size for a child's snack, but since the rim is low, I would say best to keep it for cake.UPDATE: Nearly 1 year of daily use and dishwasher washes and they still look brand new. I don't write reviews often but this product has far surpassed my expectations.

While the plates themselves are well-made, the only thing that differentiates these plates from a decorative plant saucer, is the actual plastic material. It's slightly textured, and ALWAYS smells like hay (wheat lol), which thankfully my cat seems to like. However, they are reallyyy light, and kitty likes to bury her food. These definitely travel.Before, her wet food was served in a 4" lightly raised sauce dish, and she always left about 25% in the dish. Now, she licks it clean! They're really easy to clean as well..I only like these because my cat is happy.. these are quite expensive for what they are. I'm going to have these double as plant saucers in an emergency though..

Was looking for sturdy inexpensive plate for cats to eat on. These plates are perfect. Very light weight and seem flimsy but they are not. Been through dishwasher dozen of time and are like new still. Fact that they are made of straw make these a win win!!!

These plates are easy to clean and sturdy but they are not the best for what I bought them for. I bought them to put my cats wet food on. They are so light kept moving while he was eating and I had to keep repositioning it. If used outside on a windy day, they'd fly like frisbees. Now having said all that, I am using them as sandwich plates, which they are perfect for. Or appetizers.
