Q: Is this real wood or is it a laminate over mdf?

Laminate but it's very nice. I am in love with this desk and so happy I took the plunge to get it.

Q: What width chair will fit under the desk? Depending, I may need to buy a new chair. Thank you.

I have a normal size desk chair with arms that fits under the desk. But the chair does have a hydraulic adjustment so i can lower it. If your chair has no arms, you will have no issues.
