Stanley 42-287 3-3/32-Inch Aluminum Line Level, 3 PACK

Well built and seems to be accurate. The ears on the top keep the level from easily falling off of the string. Overall a good buy.

I am sure these work well as line levels. However, I bought them just to disassemble and use the plastic level tube part The thin metal housing encloses a standard plastic bubble level which is used in many Stanley brand tools. I needed replacements for two of my longer Stanley levels, and replacing the entire levels would have cost way more than repairing. This was an inexpensive way to obtain the parts, plus I still have one line level left, which is all I really need.

Unfortunately line levels are notorious for not being accurate. While these Stanley Aluminum Line Levels are better than most only one out of the three were accurate when hung from a line. I tested all three for level both by setting them upright on a 4 foot trusted level, then strung on a tight line which was also leveled with a trusted method. All three indicated as level when paced upright on the 4 foot level. However only one tested level when hung from a line. One could conclude that the bubble tube was installed level to the aluminum frame but the hook(s) on the aluminum frame used the secure the level to a line resulted in the inaccurate reading.

I broke my old Stanley level last summer laying block. I was shocked to see that still make these metal levels. Quality seemed just as good as the old one and the price is unbelievable getting a 3 pack.

Uses these to set guide lines for a stone wall. They really grab the masons string and hang on for dear life. They're pretty much perfect at their job.
