Becoming Dad: Black Men and the Journey to Fatherhood

Leonard Pitts Jr. is one of the finest writers of our time. He articulates his ideas in a way that allows me to understand not only his message but how it relates to me and my life. This is a superb collection.

After watching Mr. Pitts interview on Tony Brown Journal. I became one of the first people to order his book on Amazon.com.I would like this book place on the recommended reading list at predominately Black High Schools, colleges and universities. It would be nice to also see a few copies available in prisons, church libraries and military PX stores. Mr. Pitts, "Becoming Dad" offers God-send messages to Black Men seeking answers, However, others can benefit from this book. In conclusion, I would like "Becoming Dad" in every conscious-seeking Black man's library.

I READ EXCERPTS OF THE CHAPTERS, IT WAS ON THE BEST SELLERS LIST, FROM WHAT I SEEN FLIPPING THROUGH, IT SEEMS THAT IT WOULD BE HELPFUL. SOME MEN DON'T REALIZE THAT THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH SOME PROBLEMS FROM THEIR CHILDHOOD RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR DADS WHICH ALSO EFFECTS THEIR PARENTING OF THEIR OWN SONS.

I found this book was well-researched and ideas were fully formed. Leonard Pitts obviously cares passionately about this topic. The prose flows so smoothly that I was finished reading the book before I ever had a chance to get bored. If you are concerned about our American society, you should read this book!

Well, I think every man should read this book, regardless of race. I thought I was going to learn about being a father, but I learned so much more about what it means to be a black man or a white man.
