Q: Has the quality of this bag gone downhill? I have an old one that I have used for over a decade - it used to be fantastic.

It's still holding up for me.. Have taken it to multiple countries folded, then unfolded and full on the way home.

No.it is a very flimsy duffel bag. Don't buy it.

Q: how big is the top opening when you unzip the zipper

I measured the opening flap it is 21" by 17". But because it is a soft bag, it can be pulled diagonally to fit something that is bigger than 21" It is a very roomy bag. It is all soft sides so can be pulled different ways to fit whatever.
