It's a basic upright vacuum - works great
Nothing fancy here. Its an Oreck upright vacuum cleaner built to last. We have had an Oreck upright vacuum cleaner still going strong after 15 years. Using the old one in a guest house after the fancy Dirt Devil died and needed another for the main house. It works great on our stained concrete floors and area rugs. Easy to maneuver and light weight to carry around. Gets in, under and around the furniture with ease. Almost moves itself forward with the roller brush action. Nice long cord and very powerful - sucks up dirt, dog hair, cat hair and even the grand babies crumbles with ease. Get the best tool you can afford and for an upright vacuum that's an Oreck. Highly recommended over the fancier brands that are 2-3X the price of an Oreck.

Another great Oreck, just like always
This Oreck is as good as, if not better than the Oreck model I purchased about a dozen years ago. That thing ran like a charm and did a great job, until the housing broke on a corner, from being rammed into too many things too many times. I bought this model because it is so much like the one I had, is commercial grade, and because I found it at such a low price! When I received it I tried it right away. My wife's"gold standard" for evaluating this Oreck is an old Kenmore "dead pig on a rope" cannister model that she loves. The beater bar attachment for that does a fairly impressive job of lifting and refreshing the pile of our carpet. I'm happy to say that this new Oreck does as well or better at that task. My wife volunteered the comment that it did do a good job in our deepest pile carpet, and yesterday she said she thought this Oreck is lighter weight than the previous one. She's been using this new Oreck as the go-to machine. Now she only uses the old cannister vacuum when she needs to vacuum furniture, etc. I look forward to using this Oreck commercial model for years to come, just as I did with the first Oreck, maybe longer. I like everything about it. It would have been nice to have a light on this model, but I knew it didn't, so that's okay.

Stopped working after 11 months, but it was repaired and I still like it.
I bought my first Oreck over thirty years ago, and it was still my favorite vacuum. We bought a Dyson (falling apart now, and way too heavy) about 10 years ago and a Miele Blue Moon (died, the electronics were too sensitive) about 15 years ago, but I still liked the Oreck best. I finally felt it was time for a new Oreck. This one is working out great for me. It's very light weight and easy to push. I love the long cord. I can vacuum the whole downstairs without having to change the plug location. I have mostly tile downstairs and it picks up all the dirt and dog hair. When I switch to the carpeted areas, I just increase the power with the power switch. My carpets are all low pile and the Oreck commercial has high suction and cleans them well. It's so light weight, I can even vacuum the stairs when I'm to lazy to get out the canister vacuum. The low profile makes it easy to vacuum under furniture. Be careful, because the suction is so strong, it will pick up area rugs and computer cords. Also, it is very loud especially on the higher power setting. I just hope it lasts half as long as my last one did!

Do not buy this vacuum if you have.....
Do not buy this vacuum if you have: people that live in your house, wear shoes, go outside, have pets, move around, open windows, or live in an area where there is nature. This vacuum is horrible. It just pushes the dirt around in front of it and/or blows it out behind it. I've had this vacuum for 5 months now and I vacuum a LOT, infact I vacuum daily which is why I bought this brand. Since Orek is a well known commercial brand I thought it would hold up to regular use on a variety of surfaces as advertised. This review is an update to my initial review which is still below. Fact is, I tried to like this vacuum and then I tried to just get used to it and deal with it, but I can't and I am going to replace it. Everything about it is awful....super stiff cord that does not move and is not easy to work around. It weighs more than the vacuum which tips over all the time if you walk away from it, it is horribly loud and not just decible wise, it is high pitched, it doesn't track straight, it is hard to manuver, it doesn't have rear wheels so you will have to carry it everywhere, no front handle, so forget doing stairs. It is awful on carpets or any kind (I have them all) and horrible on wood or other smooth floors. You will save money on bags......because it doesn't pick up anything it will take a while for the bags to fill up. This vacuum is utter garbage. Original Review: This vacuum is not as good as my Hoover Platinum, which unfortuantely they don't make anymore and I've run out of spare parts. On the Orick, the cord is a good length (same as the Hoover) but this cord is heavier than the vacuum and so stiff. If you move the cord, and you aren't holding onto the vacuum, it will fall/flip. The stiff cord is a pain to handle as you move throught the house. This vacuum is not good on standard carpets and it is only 'okay' on bare flooring (wood or LVT). It is great at vacumming my bed, which I use the low setting for. I have little dog that sleeps on the bed, so my comforter gets vacuumed every day. This is actually the only thing that the low setting is good for. The overall suction is pretty poor...it wont suck up dirt from shoes or popcorn kernals on my kitchen floor (it's weird, I know, but was no issue for the Hoover). Also, this vacuum doesn't track/roll straight. The wheeles do not track straight and that makes it hard to manuver. The only thing about this vacuum that is nice is that it is light weight.....but then you have to deal with the cord that outweighs it. I've had this vacuum and use it daily for about three to four months now and unfortunately I'm stuck with it....but I do hate it. Unfortunately, bagged uprights without all the attachements are getting very hard to find. (Damn you, Hoover! Bring back the Platinum!!!) FYI-I'm vacuuming a two story house of approximately 2000 sq ft and have a husband who never takes his boots off, grand kids and two dogs.

Updated review: Works good for me but a few things to be aware of...
Update (Aug '25): I am close to the 2 year mark of owning the U2000RB2L-1 and have a few modified comments. 1). I like the 2 speed switch a lot and would not want one without it. I have read that you can just buy the 2 speed switch and convert a single speed into a 2 speed but cannot confirm this. The slow speed comes in handy for bare floors or if you do not want to disturb someone in the area. 2). The vacuum is loud on high speed (which is the same speed as the single speed for the other Oreck models) and I keep a set of corded/tethered earplugs on the vacuum. Perhaps it is just the frequency or pitch of the sound but it is annoying. 3). Cleaning performance seems to be good. The bag is very large and fairly inexpensive but I usually end up changing the bag a bit before it is full because you can start to smell odors, like pet smells, if you fill the bag too much. 4). While the vacuum is light as far as weight, when locked in the upright position it will fall over easily if the cord is moved since the base is so small. The advantage to the smaller footprint is you can get into smaller areas which is useful around furniture. 5). To date I have had nothing mechanically wrong with the vacuum including the belt which is the long-life type (note that no spare belt is provided). When changing the bag I will wipe off the tube/pipe that the bag connects to since there usually is some dust and check the roller to make sure it does not have anything tangled in it. 6). The cord has become not quite as stiff as it originally was so it is a bit easier to handle and wrap. 7). I like the supposed ergonomic handle and it works well when you are directly behind the vacuum and push and pull straight. If you try to push it to the side or more than a shallow turn you have to be a bit more attentive to get it to do what you want. There are only two small rollers on the bottom so if you are too aggressive in your handling and pushing of the vacuum you might find that it tends to lift up on one side. It is not really an issue as long as you know how much effort to use to push or turn it. 8). Overall I would buy it again but only when at the lower price it sometimes sells for. I have seen price swings of over $100 and this higher optioned / equipped model is sometime cheaper than the two mid-priced Oreck. While the vacuum is not the most attractive with the black housing, it is not a bad deal if you are looking for a lighter weight vacuum. Original reveiw (Oct '23): Overall I am very satisfied with the U2000RB2L-1 vacuum at the 2 month of ownership mark, and I would buy it again, however there are a few items to point out. 1). This vacuum is listed as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) compliant however the requirement that the noise level be 70db or less is only met when used in the low speed mode, which is not pointed out in the description. When used in high speed it is no less quiet than any other typical Oreck XL and has a somewhat high-pitched noise. 2). The Amazon photos show that the vacuum has a pocket on the back side of the bag and says "X-tended Life" at the bottom of the bag. Neither of these items are currently present on this vacuum. 3). The cord is essentially a rugged orange extension cord but I measured it at 35 feet long, not 40 as stated in the description. I'm not sure if a 40 foot cord would even fit when wrapped on the vacuum's cord storage hooks, or rather one quick release hook and the carry handle that is used as the lower cord wrap. A cord keeper/retainer to prevent the cord from coming unplugged from the vacuum's pigtail cord is included however it forces the cord into a sharp bend at each end of the keeper that could potentially cause internal cord issues down the road. I don't use the keeper and have not had any problems with the cord becoming detached. 4). The listing (at the time of this review) states that a spare belt is included, however no spare is provided. This model, along with the U2000RB1, uses the "Endurolife" belt which is different from the other Orecks and should last longer than the standard belt. The brush roller is also different as it has a magnet in it and a sensor detects if the brush is turning. If not then there is a jam and the unit will shut down to prevent belt damage. If a regular XL brush (without the magnet) is used as a replacement then the vacuum will keep turning off because it will not sense that the brush is turning and assume it is jammed. The key takeaway here is to be sure to order the correct replacement belt and roller/brush if needed. 5). The 2 speed feature is nice and low speed works well on bath mats, throw rugs, bare floors, or where quiet is called for and high speed might be too much. Oreck calls high speed "boost mode for extra power" but from what I can tell it is just the normal speed on a single speed Oreck XL. 6). The light weight is great and on thicker pile carpet it takes slightly more effort to push but nothing I would describe as excessive. The side of the housing where the belt is located has a couple of inches where there is no cleaning since the base plate is partly enclosed and edge cleaning on that side is limited (typical on most vacuums). Vacuuming performance has been fine as far as I can tell. Any dirt I can see seems to be gone with just one pass, the bag is gradually filling up, and the carpet has that groomed look to it after going over it. 7). When in the upright position the vacuum cannot be tilted back and rolled like most uprights since the back wheels are not all the way at the back. It must be picked up and carried or the base housing must be pressed to the floor so the vacuum is no longer in the upright position and it can then be rolled. Not a big deal thanks to the light weight. There is a rubber bumper that goes around the housing and if you just tilt it back the unit will be resting on the bumper with the wheels off the floor. 8). One green bag is included and it is big compared to most uprights I've looked at. This model uses the bags without the bag dock (PK800025DW or PK80009DW) and the green bags are much better than the cheaper blue ones in reviews I've read. I am not sure if any of the Oreck purple (HEPA) bags are compatible with this model. The bag dock can apparently be purchased separately and added per some online comments, and different bags would then be needed. 9). The owner's manual has very small print, as in a full page is printed on half a page. The date code on the vacuum I received shows it was built 2 1/2 months before I got it so it was not sitting around for long. The label says it is a "Type 3" which means "Improved deflector and removed collar set screw." 10). The only assembly needed is to insert the top part of the handle into the bottom part and tighten two screws. Use caution and have a good fitting screwdriver since some reviews have said the screws did not go in easily and can get stripped. Since the screws go into an aluminum handle you want to make sure they go in straight and are not overtightened. For me it was worth it to pay the premium over the base model since I wanted to minimize the need to change belts and I wanted the 2 speeds. The only added feature I would have liked would be a headlight.

Excellent product
The vacuum was as described. Was a great price and works great. Cord is long enough to get from room to room and does not get tangled up. Powerful suction, good maneuverability, light weight and easy to use.

Very nice vacuum cleaner
We really like our new Oreck Commerical Vacuum. It picks up dirt easily, moves smoothly, slides under the bed easily. The power cord is heavy duty commerical grade so we expect it to out last the vacuum. The bag is easy to remove and unlike bagless vacuums there's no dusty mess in disposing of the dirt. The price is right for the quality. I have one small comment. The power cord is 2 peices and there is a locking part to hold the two cords together. Oreck should provide a fastener to attach the locking mechanism to the handle. I used plastic tie cords from the hardware store to fasten the cord lock to the handle, which makes the vacuum more comfortable to push. UPDATE - 2021, this vacuum is still running strong. Recently I dropped the vacuum handle and it stopped running, so I unscrewed the handle and found a lose wire connection which I reconnected and the tightened it, very easy to do, took 5 minutes, now running as good as ever.

Lightweight, easy-to-use vacuum
My 23 year old Oreck finally gave out so I did some research and found a recommendation by a carpet cleaning professional for this model. This is an early review as I have only had the vacuum for a few weeks, but so far, it's great. It's a lightweight vacuum that is move around and easy to carry up stairs. The cord is heavyweight but not cumbersome. It has two exterior brushes on the side edges of the vacuum to catch dust and crumbs along moldings and walls. Super easy to run and if you have an old Oreck with CC vacuum bags, these are compatible with this vacuum. Some reviews state that the handle is very tall--I have included a picture of my old Oreck next to this. There is hardly a noticeable difference, maybe a 1 inch height difference.
