Mallory is a great series for 3-4 th gr. girls!
My daughter loves basketball, and and this was a book for her. The plot centers around bullying and ways to handle it. Because so many kids face this, it is important to see that how you handle it makes the difference. The book has a happy ending.

Enjoyable Book about Basketball
My 7 year old granddaughter enjoyed reading this book during her basketball season. She said she liked it, but wouldn't go into a lot of detail. I hoped she found it relatable.

Once again, Mallory Louise McDonald has found herself in yet another pickle!
Mallory had heard that snort-laugh before. It didn’t look like her best friend Mary Ann was at all interested in trying out for the Fern Falls Girls Basketball League, FFGBL. It would interfere with hip-hop and, of course, their favorite TV show, ‘Fashion Fran.’ Chloe Jennifer wasn’t at all interested either. Unfortunately, Danielle and Arielle were interested in trying out for a team. It was very unfortunate because they were totally obnoxious. Mallory Louise McDonald could practically see her name up there in lights already. No problem if her friends didn’t want to try out with her she thought, because, “I, Mallory McDonald have some hoops to shoot.”Coach Nelson was waiting for everyone and explained how the tryouts would work. It didn’t seem all that hard because Mallory had been practicing. “Girls,” Coach began, “You have four chances to show us what you’re made of.” Everyone was really excited as the tryouts began. Most of the girls were at least sinking two of their shots and Arielle’s sister Olivia made all four. It was almost Mallory’s turn to try out, but it felt like there was “a basketball stuck in [her] throat.” This was really going to be stressful, but she could do it. “C’mon, Mallory!” April encouraged her. Two, Mallory only had to sink two of those shots. Swish! Not. Three more chances. Swish! Not. Maybe she could be like most of the others. Swish! Not. Oh, no ... Mallory was going to seriously look foolish. Swish! Not. Mallory had “missed all four shots” and was going to be nothing but a Fern Falls Elementary fourth grade flop. When the teams were selected Mallory and the obnoxious ones were on the Dream team. “GO DREAM!” This was going to be a big year and she was going to practice. Coach Darren had “high hopes that [they’d] be in the league champions,” but there was one little problem. No matter how much Mallory practiced she couldn’t make a single shot! Would she ruin basketball season for the entire Dream team?Once again, Mallory Louise McDonald has found herself in yet another pickle. This time she’s really done it when she creates a total “disaster” that she just can’t seem to fix. Mallory, the “sweet, cute girl with read hair and freckles,” certainly knows how to get into trouble without trying. If you’ve read any of her other adventures, you’ve seen her as she practiced her tuba, but all the practice in the world isn’t going to make her into a basketball star. Of course I’m not the intended audience for Mallory’s books, but every season I anxiously await the latest and greatest. There’s never a dull moment when Mallory is around and this book certainly won’t disappoint. Each one of the books can stand alone, but once young readers discover her, they’ll be racing back to read the other Mallory books! This book courtesy of the publisher.
