Q: How do you turn down the volume on the reciever?

Press On/Off switch and HOLD it and pulse the tone button briefly until the volume changes to where you like it best. Upon alarm, it will sound at the last pressed volume level.

Q: Does it constantly sound the alarm if the beam stays interrupted? IE the gate is left open

NO. Unit received in end of March and it does not continue to sound if the IR beam is interrupted. This less expensive unit does not beep to let you know you missed an alarm if you were out. You either hear it when it happens or you don't.

Q: Does the ir beam sense motion at night when it is dark out?

As far as does this work at night and day - YES. Not sure about the phrasing of your question, so I will explain how this works. This system is not the same as a PIR that senses a wide area to detect motion. PIRs get many false alarms. This system works by sending IR out and it comes back. To trigger the alarm the beam must be blocked, or broken. In other words, this is a very narrow area that the system checks for opaque objects to pass through and block the IR. This type system gets fewer false alarms due to the tiny area covers.

Q: Do the sensors have to be paired after we loose power?

The sensors do not have to be re-paired after losing power.
