This is book one in : The Legend of the Firewalker Book series
This is a good start to a new supernatural young adult book series I liked the premise of this story and the lore with the mix and Christian and Native American religious beliefs and folklore . In this book you have the classic poor mixed race young man who grew up with the rich girl they grew up good friends but as they got older the social lines became to much especially for our young protagonist . Throw in a summer camp and archeologist dig young people with abilities falling angels secret societies and a prophecy and you got a whole lot going on . Despite all that I still found myself liking these characters and caring about their welfare the plot is a little unclear to me but I'm willing to stick around to the end . Looking forward to the next book in this series .

Hoping it gets better...
I confess, I haven't made it very far in this book, and I am honestly not sure if I want to continue reading it or not.I feel like there could be potential for this to be a good book (which is why I'm leaving a review), but getting there is rather tortuous. It's almost like reading a draft. The story doesn't flow. I mean it kind of makes sense from a narrative point of view, but I'm not sure if it's the odd dialogue or the excessive visual details or what, but after Leah, the characters are awkward for me. Nathan is supposed to be the hero, but he just kind of comes off as a bit of a brat thus far. There is a disconnect between what is happening and his reactions to it. I mean if I were having nightmares about a girl and find out they were real, I'd be freaked. But you don't get that in the story. I mean, Nathan is a poor orphan who lives with his loving grandfather who is a caretaker for a rich family. There are a lot of things that the author could have done to make him more relatable, but it just gets lost in the background. For me, a good book makes you feel like you are inside the characters- I go through what they go through- I feel their pain and the details are just that- details. I'm not sure if the author was trying to do too many perspectives at once, or what, but I want to feel what Nathan is feeling, not just be aware of it.With a good book, getting to the end is effortless- like flying. For me, getting to the end of this one is more like plodding. And just to be clear- flying is way more fun.

Anticipation Is Making Me Wait in Vain
I liked the premise for the book. Bad things happening to innocent people, boy finds he has powers, finds out others around him have powers, bad people looking for something to do something terrible, heroes in the making, secrets. What I disliked was the plodding tiresome dialogue to get even a tidbit of information. I found myself reading the summary more than once to see if I'd selected the right ebook, to make sure it was a YA fantasy. It took so darn long to get to any interesting information - it was doled out sporactically. The book was confusing at times, mixing up characters' names. Distances were confusing, at one point you have to drive to get to another character's house, but in another instance, they just walked to the house, huh? It was so jumbled I can't even review it. I stayed to the end because there was this glimmer of a good story buried under all that verbage and I kept hoping it would appear before the end of the book. It did somewhat but it didn't come together the way I thought it should have. I'll probably get the 2nd book hoping that the author has managed to pull it together, if not, 2nd book is end of the line for me.

Best story ever
I was really into the book for certain reasons, Leah being one of them and Lafranda being the other. Like most books I have read though I new Amanda was the culprit off the bat I'm afraid. Yet I still had to read all to make sure I was right, since I was not feeling Nathan because of his lazy and self absorbed, and woe his me attitude. I knew but thought otherwise he was the hero. Man like was my favorite because he reminds me of those smartallick hero's in vampire werewolf stories. Nathan still rules me because he needs training and maturity as well as confidence to be better equipped to take on these fallen one's again. Love the story lines and the plot but wished more at the end about the adults involved like Nathan's Grandfather Roy and his brother Angus. I also know that LaDona is one of the order members. That the locket Nathan mother gave to her husband to give to LaFrada was to shield her abilities and protect Nathan in the future whiplash the could not detect him. The one cannot be detected anyway, thalamus be no fun. Excuse my spelling bad at remembering odd names, though I can tell there southern names. Cannot wait to read the next installment which I just purchased. I would highly recommend your book and plan to have my daughter read them when I am through.

Recommend this one to Sci-fi and fantasy buffs.
Everything at camp seems to be in jeopardy after they here about the grizzly happenings. Nathan wonders about the bloodcurdling tales told around the bonfire? Who can it be that is committing these horrible crimes? The quiet town of Cahokia Falls has turned out to be uncanny at the least. Nathan’s bad dreams have spun his life topsy-turvy. They are so horrible―about a gorgeous girl, evilly taken by a skin tearing creature. Definitely not the tranquil summer job he had hoped for. This tale was enthralling and full of action. The characters were believable. It had some good twists. Recommend this one to Sci-fi and fantasy buffs.

Loved it
It was too short. Simple as that. Everything else was perfect, but I read this entire book in an hour and a half. That is way too small a book for me. Other than that, the story was lovely, coodles to you Steve. You wrote a great book.ps, I wrote this at 1:52 am, so don't judge this review's credibility by its simplicity. I am too tired to think of elegant synonyms for short, and I certainly can't remember if most people count coodles as a word. this book was really awesome, and that's coming from someone who reads an average of 124 books a year. I know what I'm t as talking about. read the book.

like from a 4th grader or so
The story has potential but the book is written really poorly, like from a 4th grader or so. There are way too many details on how a character holds their hands, touches their hair, sits in bed etc., it is totally distracting and more a script for a play than a novel you can lose yourself in. Also lots of contradictory reactions being described, for example a character being angry with someone and in the next sentence the person chuckles happily (speaking of "chuckling", if I read that word one more time I might start screaming).I wasn't able to finish it. I gave it several chances but the poor writing usually put me off within minutes (still made it about 1/3 through the story) - and I am a hardcore reader !

Young teen audience
I hope that's who the book is aimed at because anyone older won't bother with it. I ditched around 20% when the author described a person who has integrity as "an integral person".Just painful. Although it's more painful to think people (kids?) reading it will believe that's the correct way to use it in a sentence. The story was very slow to start so I have no idea if it got any better, or even what the storyline is about; is it werewolves? Vampires? I won't be finding out.

first half tedious. Second half great
The first part of the book drags on. Everything is described in so much detail that it reads like a book trying to be a play script. On top of that the characters seem to have the emotional intelligence of a 12/13 yr old, rather than 18/19 yr old at university. (There are no intelligent conversations except for Jonathan's)If you intend to read this book skim through the first half and then read the second half where it actually gets interesting.Unfortunately I don't think i will be reading the second book in the series.

Slow
Ive read to page 155 and written this review. This would be a great book if it were not at such a slow pace. I've lost interest in reason for main character peril. It's just making me exhausted trying to slog through slow reading rate. I don't know if it's to much dialect ( characters speaking) or why it feels like I'm ploughing through story instead of flying through story points. Good idea for story, hope someone has patients to wade through.
