Fun functional item and got the job done!
It worked very well! I purchased this item to transfer my dad’s & his brother’s cover band songs from a cassette they recorded in the 1970’s. It’s a very cool item, definitely nostalgic! It served its purpose for me. The sound was a bit quite while listening to it with the provided headphones but once the music was on the flash drive then hooked up to my Mac it sounded great!

Magnetic head broke away from Play button after just a few uses, rendering device useless
The magnetic tape reader head is attached directly to the Play button, and it broke away from the button after just a few uses, This results in the magnetic head just floating around and not making contact with the tape. No saving this cheap item. I'll try something more robust for a similar price.

Good quality standalone recording of cassette tape or aux input to a USB flash drive
Records cassette tape or aux input to a USB flash drive having the standard full size male type A connector. No computer is required. The audio quality is good. It can play and record in either direction and has the auto reverse feature. It can be powered either by two AA batteries or by using an included cable for providing 5V 500 mA power from a USB ac adapter (not provided) or from a USB port on a computer. I only used 5V 500 mA power from a 2 A 5 V ac adapter. I do not recommend using AA batteries. Typically alkaline AA batteries only have a capacity of 860 to 1200 mA-h. Furthermore, their voltage drops substantially as they are used and thus the usable capacity is actually much less than this. It can automatically detect individual songs or just record everything until the stop button is pressed. I have only used the manual mode, which requires that one watch for the stop and reverse after both sides have been played. Also, I haven't tried recording using the AUX port and a 3.5 mm audio cable (not provided) connected to the line out from another source. There are also included ear buds with the 3.5 mm stereo phono plug. In addition to accepting the FAT and FAT32 formats, it also accepts the exFAT format, which means that one can use an SD, mini SD, or micro SD card with the appropriate adapter.HELPFUL INSTRUCTIONS: There is a sliding release on the end where the USB flash drive plugs into. In order to record, first press the large PLAY button on one of the long edges (which also has the STOP REW F.F. and DIR buttons as well as the switch for two-sided operation). The REC button is one of the six tiny black buttons on one side (the opposite side has the window through which one sees the cassete tape). The REC button is the second tiny black button from the end into which one plugs the USB flash drive. It has O LL embossed onto it. Pressing the tiny black REC button once causes the light by those buttons to blink continuously and recording takes place. Pressing it again causes recording to pause (but the cassette tape keeps turning) and the light stops blinking and just stays continuously on. Never remove the USB flash drive while recording is taking place. The USB flash drive may become corrupted.

Small but Relatively Effective for Transferring Cassettes to MP3 Format
This compact device is a marvel of miniaturization, designed to convert cassette tapes to MP3 files. After many hours of learning how to use it, my own experience is that miniaturization was overused to the point of making it difficult to use. My biggest concern is with its handling of the cassettes themselves. It is difficult to see the direction of the tape because of the various ways of changing the direction in which the tape is moving. Several times I accidentally pushed a button that changed the play direction which was difficult to correct. Also, there seems to be quite a bit of wobble in the tape speed, which tends to distort voices and make music essentially unlistenable. Several times the tape got caught up in the transport mechanism, nearly destroying the tape itself. If you need to transfer cassettes to MP3 files, and require high fidelity, this may not be the best choice. There are services which make such transfers with larger, more stable equipment. If fidelity is not critical, then this device works quite well. As a final word of caution, there are several control buttons on the face of the unit that are used for controlling playback, recording, and other functions. It is next to impossible to read the symbols on these buttons. I put a dab of white nail polish in the RECORD button so I could locate it easily.

Useful but lacking in clear instructions
Took me a while to fully understand how to use this device. First off, it will NOT work with USB flash drives larger than 32GB. It will go through the motions and flash the correct lights, but nothing will be recorded. The 32GM max is nowhere mentioned in the user guide. The labels on the numerous buttons are all but illegible. At least the "cassette operate buttons," on the outside of the case on the side where the large PLAY button is located, are identified in the user guide. But the tiny black "convert operate buttons" are not. Their purposes are listed but their placement is not specified. I needed a flashlight and a magnifying glass to make out which buttons were which. There are two volume controls. One is a thumbwheel on the end of the unit next to the USB port. The second is a pair of + and - buttons among the black "convert operate buttons." I have no idea, and the manual does not explain, the difference between the two sets. I did not discern any difference when trying to use the black + and - buttons, so I simply use the thumbwheel to control the playback volume, and this controls the volume being recorded. Tip: Don't set the volume too high or your recording will be "clipped" and distorted. Better to record with the volume slightly lower than optimal and adjust it in software. The device includes an "auto mode" that is supposed to be able to divide the separate cuts on your tape into separate files. I found it to be unreliable. In many cases, it recorded multiple cuts into one file. In other cases, it clipped off the first note or two of the song before recording commenced. I use the default "manual mode" and use my editing software (I use the highly versatile Goldwave) to separate the cuts. If you haven't set the unit's volume control just right, you will also need to use the software to maximize the volume. The transfer quality is fine, almost better than expected for the price. I did notice on a few tapes I had to adjust the channel balance, but because on most tapes is was fine, I suspect the problem was in the original recording. I suggest you not use batteries; they wear out too quickly. Also I recommend you not power the unit from the USB port on your computer. I found this generated a sort of "beating" electrical interference. Instead, I use a USB power converter, the kind that comes with a cell phone, to power the USB power cord. Keep the unit away from the computer and your cell phone if possible to avoid the interference. All in all, a very useful device to convert to digital all those old cassette tapes sitting on your shelf that you haven't listened to in years. The auto-reverse works just fine, so you can convert an entire cassette in just one operation.

Worked okay for converting a bunch of old bootlegged cassettes to MP3's.
Only drawback was unless you used headphone jack you can't hear what's on the cassette until you play the MP3.

Black & Blue are not the same unit.
This is of good quality. I plugged my BTE earbuds in and the volume is pretty good considering i have a significant hearing loss of 75%. Pay attention the BLACK & BLUE UNITS ARE NOT THE SAME. THEY ARE DIFFERENT.

Doesn't work; poor quality; return to sender
Per other comments, I tried this with several thumb drives, (256k, 512k, 8gb, 16gb) correctly formatted as FAT32. No flashing ready light. No recording. Followed instructions carefully. Nothing. Playback was poor quality. I tried a few different tapes. Home recorded or commercial cassettes had equally bad sound. Playback worked best with USB plugged into PC for power. Two AA batteries didn't work well, and they were very hot when I pulled them out. I'm returning the device after several very unhappy hours.

Producto basura, no funcionó
