Elvis' Gold Records Vol. 3

Elvis Presley's big hits from 1960-1962
Elvis' Gold Records Vol.3 was released in September 1963,then again in 1997 with additional tracks.I've had the album on vinyl since 1977,two months after Elvis passed away.I now have it CD and it's better than ever!!! It begins with "It's Now Or Never" which Elvis said was his personal favorite song. Also,"Are You Lonesome Tonight?" his second biggest selling single. ("Don't Be Cruel" is his biggest. The best selling single of the 1950's.The flip side "Hound Dog" also went to No.1 on The Billboard Charts. One of the few times both sides of a single went to No.1.) Elvis was nominated for the Grammy for Best Male Vocalist of the Year for "Are You Lonesome Tonight?", however he lost to Ray Charles for "Georgia On My Mind." It also features the No.1 singles, "Stuck on You" and "Good Luck Charm",they rock. Also, three by the great songwriting team of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman; ("Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame", an intense pop song with a great bass line and piano by the great Floyd Cramer, "Little Sister" a great rocking tune and "Surrender" a pretty love ballad which all made it into the top 5 on The Billboard Charts. Also, "Anything That's Part of You",one of Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley's personal favorites. This also features two songs that were on the flip sides of two No. 1 singles that are not available on other CDs that I know of, "Fame and Fortune" and "I Gotta Know", which are really good tunes. Also, there's the really good blues tune "I Feel So Bad" and "She's Not You" written by Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller and Doc Pomus which both made The Billboard Top Ten and the upbeat "Follow That Dream" from his 1962 movie and "King of the Whole Wide World" from the 1962 flick "Kid Galahad" and it ends with "Can't Help Falling In Love" from his 1961 flick "Blue Hawaii", one of his biggest hit movies. Elvis often ended his concerts with this song. The legendary studio musicians nicknamed "The Wrecking Crew" played on this one. While Elvis was in The Army from 1958 to 1960, he hired a vocal coach and took lessons. His baritone also changed an octave to a tenor. His already great voice was better than ever. As of 2019,Elvis still has more Gold Records than any other artist. Madonna is in second place. Some family members and me went to Graceland,Memphis,Tenn. back in 1996 and saw them all on display there. It is one the highlights of my life.

Many more of his timeless songs that you will enjoy...his voice is still strong and vibrant at this point in his career.

Another childhood memory
This was one of three albums I owned growing up, before I started purchasing my own. I played it over and over. It was as good as I remembered it. There were also some bonus tracks including "I can't help falling in love with you", which is of course, the ultimate Elvis song. This is a very good collection.

ELVIS at his very best!
This is REALLY EASY!If Elvis doesn't already feature in your record collection, then before buying music by ANY others artist, or band, male or famale, dead or alive ...make it your first task to acquire Elvis Golden Records (Volume 1) & this album, Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3.The original 'Golden Records' album provides his great early numbers, "Hound Dog", "All Shook Up", and "Jailhouse Rock" among them - just FEEL the energy, which set up the next two generations of music listeners. (Yes ...and 'broke the heart' of those among my father's generation, who were raised on Mozart, Schumann & Beethoven ...and never really managed to get to grips with jazz ...let alone The Blues ...which spawned both R&B AND Rock'n'Roll!)Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3 offers the more lyrical side of his music ...when Elvis demonstrates his fine baritone voice in such numbers "It's Now or Never", "Are You Lonesome Tonight?", "Little Sister", "Good Luck Charm" and "Can't Help Falling In Love". If you are German, or a German speaker ...then you MAY be amused (or not!) with his part-rendition of the traditional number 'Muss Ich Dinn' ...which is the basis of the melodious "Wooden Heart"!When you've fully appreciated these albums, well you will surely want to fill-in with Volume 2: No ...50,000,000 Fans CAN'T be wrong! After that, while there are plenty of Elvis Albums to consider, then I'd suggest going the 'Compare & Contrast' route!Compare Elvis with Carl Perkins ..the King of Rockabilly ...then the really creative Buddy Holly, the bizarre Little Richard, and those other R&R greats, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis Bo Diddley & Lloyd Price. While Cliff Richard certainly had his merits as a vocalist (...and arguably STILL does - as his fans will still attest in their millions!)) ...but once you have listened to all, well most of those ground-breaking singers just STOP! Then ask yourself HOW any A&R man could sit by with a straight face ...while the marketing men described Cliff as ...'The English Elvis Presley'! In retrospect THAT comparison is surely worth gallons of tears shed in mirth ...from total disbelief!

What can you say about these Golden Records series - all 5 10/10. The man who started it all, every track has you listening for more. I love the retro album cover, very kitch 50's and 60's. These albums are faultless 10/10
