Yamaha SB7Xc Silent Brass System for Trumpet

While not quite the epitome of what it could possibly someday be, this is an excellent product that provides great value. Having used this for over 3 years so far, if it failed tomorrow, I would get another right away and feel like I got great value.Cons: * Cords require attention and management when using; * Requires extra air pressure to play, similar to most any quiet practice mute; * Like any practice mute, interferes with trumpet's natural resonance, making it more dependent on embouchure for correct pitch.Neutral: * Ear buds are of modest quality but work fine. (I mostly use over the ear, open air headphones)Pros: * Quiet. People can watch TV in same room, and can sleep in the next room * Full trumpet sound. Much better practice experience than just practice mute alone * Extra air pressure required might help to develop lungs * Extra practice controlling pitch with embouchure makes for better embouchureNote on Bluetooth vs cords:It is easy and not very expensive to use bluetooth headphones, and wireless connection for the mute using readily available bluetooth transmitter/receivers. I have tried with this headphones. It works fine, but I prefer to put up with managing the cords. Bluetooth delays the sound somewhat, and while we mostly accept such delays (e.g. with mobile phones & IP phones vs traditional (POTS) land lines), I prefer the more instantaneous responsiveness using the cords. I imaging that perhaps the signal processing in the silent brass system itself introduces a small delay, and each packet based (bluetooth) radio added to the path adds that much more.

The mute fits my Yamaha trumpet just right. I saw reviews that Yamaha lists different stock numbers for this system for distribution purposes but the product is the same and I agree. I bought from this listing because it was $30 less than the other listing.The mute by itself is an excellent practice mute but I don't use it for that purpose because I don't want to carry it around. I hook it up to the system with my one one piece ear buds. The Yamaha buds don't stay in my ears well.The trumpet sound is realistic and makes practice more fun. Additionally, I can hook up my phone or another device and pipe music that I can play along with. The amazing trumpeter, Andrea Giuffredi has "play along" music on YouTube with the trumpet score on the screen. With the hookup I described, I think it is possible to play along with him!

I am completely ecstatic about having my third generation Silent Brass system. I read a series of reviews before purchasing this system and was hesitant because there didn't seem to be a consensus as to whether or not this was a good product. Let me settle this argument NOW!!!! This is a superior product in every aspect of the design. I've owned the other two generations made by Yamaha and found that they were convenient, however, serious flaws prevented using the system on a regular basis. (1) The previous systems were very frustrating in that the mute would slowly work its way out of the bell. (2) The other systems cause severe back-pressure and thus gave an unnatural playing experience. (3) The sound quality was only a good substitute and definitely not realistic. The new SB7Xc has resolved all of these issues. The sound and playing experience are completely natural. The first time I played, I actually thought I did not have the mute in the bell! It is that realistic. I do not doubt some reviewers testimony that state that some of the notes are flat, however, making the appropriate adjustments on the tuning slides solve this problem. The ONLY experience that is better than this system is to not have to insert a mute at all and play naturally. But as we ll know, this is impractical if you live with others or confined spaces such as a hotel or apartment. I highly recommend this unit for all practice occasions.

The mute works very well and almost completely dampens the sound. Unfortunately that also adds significant resistance, making it harder to play. Because of this, I don't always use it, but when I do have to, such as practicing in my apartment at night or early morning, it does its job perfectly.

I own, among many others, a Yamaha D/Eb trumpet and a Silent Yahama piano which I use in Paris where we live half-time (or did, pre-Covid...), so I am well familiar with Yamaha quality. This unit deadens the emitted trumpet sound in a comparable manner to that of a traditional Shastock Whisper Mute. The resistance it causes is comparable or perhaps slightly less than the Whisper Mute but the sound, of course, is much better. I find the reverb effect (which I don't use at all on the piano) to be most enjoyable, simulating playing in a large hall. An added bonus is that the feedback this provides leads to confidence and attendant relaxation, for me at least, a most salutary and unexpected side effect. Not cheap but well worth it in my estimation. Recommended!

I am totally impressed with this system. There was nothing like this back in the 70s when I first started playing the trumpet but this is a game changer for me. There are many times when I’d like to practice late at night but I don’t want to disturb anyone. I’m at my 90 year old mom’s house for a visit right now and I can’t afford to miss three days practice so I bought this hoping it would work and it has exceeded all expectations. It was easy to hook up and fits tightly in the bell. The sound reproduction is fantastic and it even has a little bit of reverb to simulate room tone. I highly recommend this to anyone who is restricted by rehearsal space. I can even use it so my dog won’t howl! Great invention and totally worth the money.

Das Produkt ist echt mega, ich bin voll begeistert. Bin absolut glücklich, dass ich mich zu dem Kauf durchgerungen habe, auch wenn der Preis hoch ist, rentiert sich auf jeden Fall. In meine Trompete hat es auch gepasst, nicht zu klein oder zu groß.Wovon ich allerdings wenig begeistert bin, ist dass ich Zoll Gebühren gezahlt habe und zwar über 30 Euro, somit war der kostenlose Versand nicht mehr ganz so kostenlos, war schon ärgerlich, wusste ich nicht, muss ich aber hier loswerden.

I had the 1st generation of Silent Brass from Yamaha and it was OK. Sound quality was good however, it was very bulky. Decided to go for this new version finally and all I can say is the new studio is way much better. I almost can’t tell if the mute is on - sound is so realistic. Also the mute is surprisingly compact; even fits in the case when it’s on!

Eccellente. Silenzia completamente per suonare anche nelle ore più impensabili in ogni luogo. L'emissione è come una sordina normale quindi non è come l'emissione d'aria naturale ma risolve il problema del poter suonare in qualsiasi ambiente a qualsiasi ora del giorno senza farsi notare e interferire con la quiete altrui.

Aunque la fecha de entrega estaba prevista en tres semanas el pedido me llegó en once días. Sordina de estudio para trompeta que he probado varias veces y el resultado es excelente, nada que ver con otras sordinas que he tenido anteriormente, te ofrece una calidad de sonido muy buena y la posibilidad de elegir entre dos reverberaciones distintas, una (Rev1) en la que el sonido sería como si estuvieras tocando en una habitación o un recinto pequeño y la otra (Rev2) en la que el sonido es el de un lugar muy amplio (salón grande, auditorio, templo, etc.). De momento no puedo decir cuánto pueden durar las pilas que necesita, pilas que por cierto tienes que poner porque no vienen incluidas. Es una compra muy aconsejable para todo aquel que quiera estudiar en casa sin molestar a nadie y sabiendo en todo momento el sonido que estás interpretando. muy contento con la compra y con los resultados.
