Buy Asceticism and Anthropology in Irenaeus and Clement (Oxford Early Christian Studies) by Behr, John (ISBN: 9780198270003) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: FR. John does an excellent job of allowing us to understand the intentions of the early fathers. this book was very helpful in understanding asceticism before the desert. I loved the comparison between these two authors. i really realized that St. Athanasius must have used Ireneus when writing On the Incarnation. it was also very interesting to see Clement write about spiritual topics that were later expanded on in the desert. such as Apatheia with Evagrius. i loved this book. although theology, it was a great spiritual benefit Review: Father John Behr is one of the most brilliant teachers in the Christian world today. Having studied the anthropology of the Eastern Fathers with him, this volume provides the basis for much of what you hear in the classroom. An outstanding work.
