Amazon sell both.For me, they sting for the first minute. They clear water out of the ear though and presumably the alcohol has some kind of antiseptic effect. I used to suffer with fungal ear infections after getting water in my ears: a lot of pain and antibiotics but after using these products I no longer get it.So it is not just for swimmers, but for anyone who suffers pain when getting water trapped in their ears. If you get stinging on anpplication and it bothers you, there are other products (Amazon sells these too) with different ingredients, I see one with tea tree which ingredient I believe has an antifungal effect. But I cannot report on the use of those, as I am happy enough with this product.
