This flash is like nothing on the market. I was a bit skeptical at first as I have tried many add-on flashes to obtain good lighting when taking pictures at night & when in dark areas. This thing is great. Not only does it come in 3 colors to match your iphone, but it's small & has a very "rich" look & feel. You will love it!

it's a neat little flash. It has a Guide Number of about 6 (comparable with many compact flash pop up xenon flashes). The software works well but one is limited to changing the ISO of the sensor by a couple of stops and halving the power of the flash. It is robust and needs to be since its easy to have it fall off the phone. The main culprit is the iPhone camera and not the flash. Since an iPhone camera is really a video camera modified to take stills, you can't sync at faster than 1/30 or 1/45 sec depending on model of phone. It is probably more useful for people who use their phone in their work to take images of things in potentially dark areas. It has to be used carefully to improve images of people.

They say “a picture is worth a thousand words” but obviously you can’t say much about a picture that is under exposed and the image is so dark that you can’t even make out what the image is all about. Not to mention losing the opportunity of capturing that special moment and photograph because the flash power on your iPhone is not powerful enough. It is for this reason that I purchased this Xenon Wireless Flash to supplement the flash on my iPhone 5S (also compatible with 5, 5S, 6, 6 Plus, 6S and 6S Plus). This is an external flash that will work with your smartphone in order to take better, clearer pictures when outdoors at night/evening. This product is app based (and not to be paired with Bluetooth). This means in addition to attaching the flash behind your iPhone, you must also download the “RealFlash Camera” app located on the App Store. Once you have downloaded the app, follow instructions as per user guide:1. Charge your RealFlash external flash using (20 mins. Yields approximately 150 flashes)a. The charging indicator will display a continuous red light if fully charged. The red light will flash if charging is required.2. Attach Realflash to your iPhone and Set-up RealFlasha. Stick the magnet metal plate to the back of your iPhone;b. Attach RealFlash to the magnet metal plate3. Download RealFlash appa. Search for "RealFlash" in Appstore and download;b. Turn on RealFlash external flash and setup in the RealFlash App.As you can see from the picture taken outside late in the evening (it was very, very dark), the RealFlash worked very well and got some pretty good results. It was too light in one area but that was because I was too close in range. Overall, I am happy with the results and will definitely recommend this product to my friends and family.

update - july 23 '16: after obtaining a replacement unit from the manufacturer, i was able to finally test this flash with my iPhone and have found it to work very well for product shots of mixed media art items i am making for resale. this is the use for which i needed it, and it has performed remarkably well. the iPhone's own flash alone does not do very well for this purpose, but the addition of the RealFlash solves it. i have thus change my review to 5 stars, both for the great customer service, and for the fact the flash is doing what i needed and expected it to do. [ i do wish it would work on my iPad, too, but because my iPad is older and does not have a built in flash already, the RealFlash will not fire.]------[old review, no longer valid.]I really wanted to love this flash device, because i have such a hard time getting decent product photographs with my iPad and iPhone for online sales purposes. However, nothing happens when i attempt to take photos. I have the app installed and the photographs happen, but no flash happens. The flash is not firing at all. I had fully charged the unit overnight before attempting to use it, and properly affixed the magnets to both of my devices, in the correct location as instructed, and took dozens of photographs, trying to get the flash to work. it was doing absolutely nothing except taking dark photographs. Very disappointing. Because i am reviewing this new product for the seller, i wanted to get an exchange rather than a refund, so i could give it a proper review - but the seller only offered a refund. I waited a couple more days, continuing to try to fix the issue, but no success. Only now am I reluctantly leaving this review with two stars instead of the five stars i had hoped to leave. :-/If i can get another unit, one that works, then i will revise this review to reflect my experiences with the new unit.I received this product at a discounted price for product testing and review.
