How big are chess pieces? Im looking for something really small! Thx!!

They are pretty small. The pawns are as tall as a dime. The tallest piece, the king is not quite as tall as a quarter.

Can you close the lid with pieces on the board and will the they stay in position even if it's moved around?

Because this is a mini compact travel chess kit meant for economy of space there's no room for pieces to remain in place with lid on.
