Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Ink (8BY) Ink Bottle, 1.0 oz, White, 1 Bottle

I mostly work in watercolor, with a little colored pencil thrown in for good measure. I often work with several mediums. It depends on my mood and the subject of my work. I have always been frustrated when it came to watercolor and white. Yes, I do attempt to save my whites, but sometimes you need to add a highlight or a sparkle that wasn't accounted for in the planning phase. This ink is absolutely wonderful. It allows me to add that tiny spot of white here or there, dries very quickly, and shows up just the way I wanted it to while painting. I know some artists are purists and work solely in the medium they picked for a composition, but I'm pretty much "mixed medium" at best. My goal has always been "to show people the world as I see it," so I'm always a fan of being true to that instead of a particular medium. I hope to buy a couple more of this inks later on. In my book, it's a good value for the money spent.

Thick white ink that shows up well on dark surfaces. did well for stamping as well as some calligraphy.

I am delving in to a book of ink blot drawings during my weekly drink and draw gatherings, so added white to work with the black and sienna inks I have. So far, this has been spectacular, and I recommend. I am a professional illustrator and not a novice with regard to using india inks, so my review is not geared towards younger age users of the product.

I'm going to be blunt: I was a little let down with this ink. I was expecting I could use black india ink on paper, let it completely dry, and with one dip and one stroke, I could draw a perfect white line over that black ink. That is NOT what happens. This ink is surprisingly runny and somewhat transparent. When you draw one line over black ink, it leaves behind a watery cloudy grey color. For some detail work, this is actually pretty great, but I was expecting solid white, and I did NOT get that. I need to draw over the same line 2 or 3 times (letting the original dry completely first) before it'll leave pure white lines covering the black india ink. To its credit, if you're drawing over a cross-hatched outline and getting rid of very fine black lines, it works pretty well. If you're hoping to draw over solid black and get solid white, not going to happen. To follow up: I suggest you go out and buy that Posca white marker if you want a low-profile, mostly white covering. Downside is the lines will be thicker than the ultra fine scratch lines you can get with an ink pen, but the Posca tips are pretty small and could theoretically achieve the cross hatch effects you want. It will just take a lot of black ink, dry, white posca marker, dry, black fine touch ink...which builds up material and is unfortunate. There's gotta be a better way, but until someone comes up with white india ink that no matter how little you use, WILL make a surface pure white, you're stuck with this for small errors, and Posca markers for big ones. Still a valuable part of anyones' art supplies, but not the cure all miracle I was under the impression it'd be. Thank you anyway.

For watercolor paintings, this ink is not too thin or too thick..love using it for all types of detail. It also blends well after it is applied to soften the lines or other markings.

is very thin. Might work well in pens but does not do well with cotton fabric. Soaks in and is not opaque.

Very good coverage comparable to other white India inks like Speedball. Bottle is easy to use with dipping pens, though some of the larger Speedball holders have tight clearance yet fit all the way to the bottom. Like James Bond's Martinis, be sure to shake well before using for maximum effect.
