Perfect for steaming already cooked crabs. I ordered two and I love them.

I bought this to steam frozen dimsum and it works every time. I can place metal or glass containers on top of this and get the item out easily. It fits into my stainless steel pot and so far it hasn't rusted. I even put it into the dishwasher with no issues.

I do not can all the time, but when I do decide to water bath can I have a fairly good selection of canning equipment. Unfortunately, almost all of my water bath equipment is intended for the larger wide mouth jars I typically use to can tomatoes, peppers, etc. Last week I decided to can some fresh strawberries and use my supply of smaller “jelly” size jars, but when a tried using the racks I had to hold them in place in the water bath the openings were far too large and the jars just fell to the bottom. Being in a small panic as the strawberries would not wait forever, I checked Amazon and instead of a wire rack, I found the solution was a stainless steel plate with short legs that easily hold all the jars while keeping them off direct contact with the bottom of my crock pot. While most of the dimensions in the advertising are in metric and approximate, here is what you need to know: The stainless steel disk has a slight raised rim around the outside which helps keep the jars from touching the inside of the pot. The disk measures 8-1/2” in diameter, and the pot in the photo is a standard 10” pot, which actually measures 9-1/2” inside diameter. This means there is a half-inch clearance all around which is perfect to place inside and take out without any problem since it’s not a tight fit. The legs raise the plate surface 2-1/2” but for a tall crock pot and short jelly jars this still leaves the jars far below the water level. While the three stainless steel legs were fairly easy to press into the provided notches on the bottom of the plate, this takes a little wrangling to make the connection so I recommend leaving the legs attached when stored even though this might make it slightly harder to stack with other canning equipment while avoiding bending. I am pleased with my purchase and really liked the lower sale price!
