Seat softer than it looks but still not a lounger
My workplace had balance stools available that were upholstered and dome shaped. I liked those but the dome put too much pressure where I didn't want it. I ordered this because of the seat shape. The rubber is softer than I expected from the pictures and I'm quite happy with it. If you don't have a stool of the right height I found your legs can go numb after a bit, but I always thought that, paired with a standing desk, the idea of the stools is to keep you from lounging on them.As other users have said, it is slippery on hard surfaces, but my desk is in a carpeted room so that's not a problem for me.Everything feels extremely sturdy though the rubber is a bit loose and if I were managing an office, I'd worry that some of the furniture pickers out there might tear it apart over time. But for home use, I love it.

Very well designed, highly recommended
I've used this for about 4 days now. I'm a genuine buyer here not a shill reviewer. I'm an illustrator that works on a computer tablet for hours at a time so I needed help in the ergonomics dept. This seat, I could tell from the moment I put it together, is very heavy duty and well made using high grade materials. It's not a cheap seat so you're getting what you pay for here. Assembly is just putting the seat and base on the post, couldn't be simpler. In practical use, since you're going to be shifting some force to your legs, you're really are going to need some kind of foot support so check out the solidly built "Active Collection FFR-1000 Stabilizing Footrest" - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014VAY4G0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I bought this, too, and it works great with the Pivot seat. This footrest is also nice to use as a stretching bar for your calves (just stand on it with your toes and let the back of your feet drop down). I also bought the "Varidesk Standing Desk Anti-Fatigue Active Comfort Floor Mat" - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HE16XYE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - which can potentially take the place of that footrest since it has a decent lip in the front to rest your feet while using the Pivot seat. Back to the Pivot seat: the seat itself is firm foam rubber material so it may cause some discomfort if you're on this thing for an extended time. That can be greatly relieved by placing a small, thin, non-slippery cushion between you and the seat. I've been experimenting, though, and find that using no cushion and just tipping the Pivot at a more extreme angle distributes the pressure more evenly on the butt (footrest support of some kind is necessary, though). I even find reversing the seat so the back is at the front gives me more support, so experiment to find what works best for you. The hydraulic tube and adjustment grips that are on both sides of the seat work great. Having the adjustment grips on both sides was a smart design choice as it maintains your balance as you change the height of the seat.My studio seating setup now only shifts between standing (using the Varidesk mat) and this Pivot seat -- since getting the Pivot I no longer use my regular old drafting chair and do not miss it! This kind of seating feels SO much better on the butt and legs over time. It's vitally important to avoid getting Deep Vein Thrombosis in your legs so, please, do NOT sit all the time while working as you are, potentially, seriously damaging your health by doing so.Another tip: in addition to the above I also placed a medicine ball (8 lb size) on the floor and just slowly roll that back and forth while standing. You can also use tennis balls for that, too. Anything that prevents your lower half from locking into a static position while working is crucial to your health. Sitting all the time is VERY bad for you but alternating between standing, leaning, and moving your legs with intermittent stretching over time will vastly improve your health and how you feel at the end of the day.

Extremely happy with this chair
Extremely happy with this chair. it’s a solo d design and can take a beating. The seat takes a little bit of getting used and the price a bit more than I wanted to pay. Still the best chair I’ve ever had despite the latter.

Could Have Been Great But...
I bought this chair a year ago with the intent of using it to improve my back pain and strengthen my core with a more active seat. Mission (sort of) Accomplished. When I chose this chair I knew it was an inexpensive Pivot / Leaning Chair. As a result I expected problems with this chair. I also expected good things with this chair. Oddly, the things I thought would be a problem were not, whereas those I thought would be good were not.The Good:I made the (faulty) assumption that the biggest problem with the chair would be the pneumatic tube that allows the seat height to adjust from a reported 26" to 35.5" and would support up to 300 pounds. The pneumatics performs like a champ and is very stable for me at 225lbs. I also thought there would be a problem with the base slipping on the extremely thin carpet-over-concrete floor of my office. Maybe it would at a REALLY steep angle or with thicker carpet, but for regular use in my office it grips well. The Bad:I figured that since not all of my weight would be perched on this platform, but would instead be leaning against it the cushion - shaped like a tractor seat and made of a fairly thick and durable foam - would be reasonably comfortable. Again, I was wrong. The shape of the seat impacts my tailbone and the rest of the seat has so little padding on it that it gets uncomfortable after a while. Further and most importantly the foam grips the fabric of my pants and slowly-but-surely hikes up the seat and legs to the point of discomfort so I have to get off and adjust everything every 5 minutes. This is only an issue with my officewear, though, not with jeans. All in all it's probably worth the money, but I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it. I'm going to replace it with a chair of a different design.

I am a big guy
Like the tagline says, I am a big guy, 6 foot for 285 pounds. I use this when I paint, it adjust up to my height and adjust down to my daughters height who’s 52. You do not want to use it on a hardwood floor, lay a gripping carpet underneath it or it will continually slide on you. Well worth the money, much better than one of those rolling barstools.
