FostexTh900 Mk2/Mkii Flagship Premium Reference Headphones, Closed Back - Bordeaux 'Urushi' Lacquer

Según cierta teoría audiofila, los drivers dinámicos no alcanzan la calidad de los magneto planares, ni las bajas impedancias producen un buen sonido. Depende. El Fostex th900 mk2 es dinámico, de baja impedancia, pero su calidad sonora es es-pec-ta-cu-lar. Con sus 28 ohmios puede moverse con un simple móvil, aunque eso no es lo ideal. Si te has comprado este auricular es conveniente darle un reproductor de audio más solvente. En mi caso es el Fiio M11 Pro, un DAP relativamente portable pero con un notable desempeño HiFi, bien sea con archivos sin pérdida almacenados en el reproductor o con tu mejor streaming. En mi caso, Amazon Music HD. Es probable que este setup pueda mejorarse, yo desconozco cómo. En este punto, creo haber alcanzado el nirvana audiófilo.

Nachdem mein alter TH900 Kopfhörer ein paar Defekte hat, habe ich eine Zeit lang den Philips Fidelio benutzt doch ich habe den Sound des Fostex TH900 so sehr vermisst, dass ich mir jetzt das neuere Modell Mk2 bestellt habe. Ich schreibe euch jetzt hier meine Eindrücke und Erfahrungen mit dem Kopfhörer, dazu muss ich sagen, dass ich kein Audiophiler bin der euch detailliert den Sound erklären kann.Verarbeitung / Optik / KomfortTrotz das dies mein Lieblingskopfhörer ist, muss ich sagen, dass die Verarbeitung für den stolzen Preis von 1500 Euro besser sein könnte. Manche Sachen aus Plastik hätten ruhig auch aus Metall oder robusterem Material sein können z.B. der Ring den man braucht um die Ohrpolster zu befestigen / wechseln.Optisch sieht der Kopfhörer natürlich sehr schick aus. Es gibt auch ein paar Limited Editions zu kaufen mit anderen Farben wie z.B. Blau, Schwarz ( nur in Russland ) und Weiß. Die sind leider aber auch nochmal teurer und sollen wohl einen anders abgestimmten Sound haben.Kommen wir zum Komfort, hier gibt es eine Sache die vielleicht manche als störend empfinden. Die Ohrpolster die standardmäßig drauf sind, sind sehr weich und angenehm jedoch ( ist etwas schwer zu erklären ) je nach Ohrgröße / Kopfform und Druck sitzt euer Ohr direkt an diesem Plastikgitter dran, das hinter den Ohrpolster ist, d.h. normalerweise müssten die standard Ohrpolster noch etwas mehr länge bzw höhe haben. Ansonsten ist der Kopfhörer sehr leicht und man kann ihn getrost mehrere Stunden auf haben.SoundHier wird es jetzt interessant. Der Kopfhörer ist nicht komplett geschlossen und hat eine kleine Öffnung an beiden Seiten, dass bedeutet wenn ihr Zockt oder Musik hört dringt der Sound auch nach außen.Out of the Box also ich nenne es mal Werkszustand ist dieser Kopfhörer meiner Meinung nach Körperverletzung, weil er so hell und die Höhen so spitz sind als ob jemand mit einem Katana oder einem Spitzen Gegenstand in euer Ohr sticht. Länger als 10 min hab ich es nicht ausgehalten und ich kann dadurch verstehen, dass viele diesem Kopfhörer enttäuscht sein werden. Darauf hin habe ich gelesen, dass die Ohrpolster viel ausmachen und mir dann einige von verschiedenen Firmen bestellt. Ich weiß nicht genau wie die das hinkriegen, aber mit den "Lawton Angle Pads" ist dieser Kopfhörer einfach unglaublich.Jetzt ist es keine Körperverletzung mehr sondern nur noch ein Genuss.Wer gerne basslastige Sachen hört wie ich ( Suicideboys, Ghostemane, EDM, Hardstyle, Hardcore etc )wird hier sicherlich wie ich seinen Traumkopfhörer gefunden haben, denn trotz des massiven Basses gehen die anderen Elemente nicht unter oder werden verschluckt durch Gedröhne. Ich weiss nicht ob man das auch ohne die Ohrpolster zu wechseln hinkriegt mit einem Equalizer, was natürlich eine kostengünstigere Variante wäre, denn die Ohrpolster kosten auch nochmal 79 Dollar. Ich wurde auch nicht von Lawton bezahlt es hier zu schreiben, es ist meine persönliche Erfahrung.FÜR WEN LOHNT SICH DER KOPFHÖRER ?Wenn ihr gerne heftigen Bass mögt ohne das andere Elemente drunter leiden.Wenn ihr den Kopfhörer oft benutzt ( ich trage den mind. 3 Stunden pro Tag zum Zocken und Musik hören )werdet ihr sicher eure Freude haben. Ich persönlich werde sofern sich mein Musikgeschmack oder meine Begeisterung für Bass nicht ändert, diesen Kopfhörer mein Leben lang verwenden und wieder kaufen, falls er irgendwann den Geist aufgibt.FAZITIch müsste eigentlich mindestens einen Stern abziehen, wegen der Verarbeitung und der Tatsache, dass ich für diesen Kopfhörer die Ohrpolster wechseln MUSS, aber ich gebe 5, weil er einfach mein Traumkopfhörer ist.

Foster Electronics (Fostex' parent company) have quietly been leading closed back headphone design for decades. The Sony R10, Denon D2000/5000/7000 were OEMs of Foster's Biodynamic transducer. More recently, ZMF, Mr. Speakers etc. have made a small cottage industry out of modding the Fostex T50RP into a new generation of planar magnetic headphones.These TH900 represent Fostex' own take on the top of the line in closed back headphones. These feature a skull shuddering 1.5 Tesla of magnetic flux density, compared to ~1 Tesla in the TH6xx and THX00 as well as the modern OEM variants from E-Mu etc.The headphone is beautifully crafted, featuring Urushi lacquer cups (mesmerizing!), all hand made in Japan. The packaging and product presentation is luxurious, including a glamour brochure like that included with a new car. . . the nice Fostex wooden stand to display your treasure is also much appreciated.The sound profile on these is not neutral. I disagree with Fostex' description of these as a reference headphone - these are a STATEMENT headphone. Their aim is not accuracy, but curation, offering you a luxuriously selected spectrum on a platter. The V profile frequency response on these is wild, the bass is amazing but also the large cup size and detailed highs combine for an enormous soundstage for closed backs. I also have the TR-X00 Ebony from Massdrop, and although wonderful in their own right, can attest that the 1 Tesla variant simply can't quite muster the impressive force the TH900 brings to your ears.I own many top tier headphones (electrostats, planar mags, balanced armature as well as an army of high impedance german dynamics). These are not the most accurate headphones I own, but they may be the most FUN, the most joyous. They have made me late for work because I can't help but finish up listening to an album on them. Re-listening to my collection with these is like meeting an old friend I haven't seen in years, but somehow noticing something new about them immediately. A prominent YouTube reviewer joked that he got excited even about listening to 'The Aladin soundtrack' on them - lolz aside, I completely agree - I look for excuses to try these everywhere I can.Praise aside, there are some downs. The cable, thankfully replaceable in the MK2, is cumbersome and long. It kinks up more like a garden hose than a headphone cable. Also, despite being closed back, these do not isolate particularly well. You can hear the room around you somewhat still, and expect that others will be able to make out what you are listening to as well - more appropriate for the living room than the office.After having listened to these for about a month, I may like them even more than I did initially (and I liked them right away). Ironically, they were my first Fostex pair, but they definitely will not be my last. An absolute joyous headphone that celebrates Foster's rich history in audio.

Even though at the moment it is overkill for what audio gear i'm using (PC->Sound card), it sounds great and very enjoyable, the main reason i went with these pair of headphones and not other flagships is their ability of reproducing deep\low Bass, i'm not really into classical or instrument separation thing, but regardless of the type of music you're listening to, i can say its very "fun" as others might describe it (again, sound coming from just a gaming sound card... looking forward to pair these with a DAC + AMP )Others might say that these are overpriced because of their design and traditional Japanese lacquered "Urushi" finish to the wooden cups (which looks stunning btw), but personally i still think they are worth it, after all you're paying for a flagship product.While i can't really consider this a con, its worth mentioning that sometimes the highs\treble can be a bit harsh depending on the song you're listening to, but then again, it might just be my audio gear and not the headphones themselves (although quite a few people do mention this thing on some forums).Overall, they look great, sound great and they are comfortable for long listening sessions.Product is 5/5, seller is 0/5, after ordering these headphones, i went all the way and bought the HPA8 MK2 Audiophile DAC & Headphone Amp, from the same seller, ended up not meeting my expectations and requested a refund, seller closed my return request and contacted me on the email(not through Amazon email service), after providing me with the address for the item to be shipped, i then sent the item with all tracking information and in the end seller refused to reply to any of my messages and i ended up with no product and -£1,049.00 , avoid seller if you're planning on returning items, scammer.

There's a lot of b/s reviews out there that state the TH900mk2's are only for 'bassheads'. You won't hear much about them these days as they have been around for a few years so aren't the flavour of the month.But these closed backs have the best soundstage I've heard on any closed back. The bass is deep, punchy and articulate without being boomy. The treble is detailed and airy although many say it can be sibilant but not to my ears. This does have a V shaped signature which reviewers don't like as they all want boring neutral sounding headphones. But if you want an engaging listen then these are excellent. I tried Focals, the Aeon Noire and have the Beyerdynamics T5p gen2 - the TH900mk2's beat all of them for the music I listen to - rock/indie/edm.Comfort and weight are good and I can wear them for hours. There is some sound leakage compared to others like the T5p. They of course look gorgeous which adds to the enjoyment of ownership.They come with a nice Fostex stand but only a 9ft 6.35mm cable and no bag/case which is pretty cheap for a top of the line headphone. An additional short cable with 3.5mm connector or balanced connector would have been nice. The 9ft cable is a pain for desk use.
