Awesome, just like the Sega Master System game!
It's exactly like SMS Alex Kidd, and also has a new graphics version, you can switch back and forth whenever you want throughout the game. This was my favorite game when I was a young kid and have wanted to play it again for years! I love it and would definitely recommend!

Great for nostalgia, frustratingly difficult..
Fondly remember playing Alex Kidd in Miracle World on my SEGA Master System back in the late 80s, but of course forgot how insanely difficult and challenging the game was. It's still a lot of fun and the DX remake makes everything a little prettier to look at, though this often only helps to make things harder by obscuring smaller enemies and hidden traps/pitfalls. You can switch to a 'retro inspired' 8-bit look at any time, and while this occasionally helps in certain spots, sadly it isn't a true port of the original. Some quality-of-life changes were added to make the game less frustrating, like an infinite lives option, though this locks you in to a playthrough that won't earn certain trophies/achievements, including the Platinum. I really feel that more could've been done in this regard, as even the slide-crouch maneuver still feels like an impossible glitch that could only be done accidentally. At least it's true to the original, as far as difficulty is concerned, but that will likely only appeal to the very small niche of gamers looking for the Dark Souls of long-lost 8-bit platformers. Really can't remember how long the game is, but it took me about 4 hours to get to the first castle and felt it was best to call it quits and take a break for the day.The game came with an actual manual, keychain and a throwback SMS black-and-white grid reversible cover, which was a nice touch. Still have my original copy, so if nothing else, it's all a nice addition to the collection. Definitely recommended if you're a fan of the old franchise, a fan of old Master System games or just into really difficult 8-bit platformers. Was kinda hoping that SEGA themselves would revive some of their old SMS IP with some new games and an original classics collections for PC and modern consoles, but I guess this is a step in the right direction for now.Just realized that in order to get the Platinum trophy, you must do a complete playthrough without buying anything at the shops. Not that I ever get much of a chance to do so due to the weird game design, I now have to scrap my 6 hour save and start all over. Not at all happy about this as an "achievement" and dropping my review from 4/5 to 3/5. As an aside, all the original rock-paper-scissors cheats still work and a straight playthrough using infinite lives (without trophies) only takes an hour to complete. Worth $15 or so as an 'indie' remake, ultimately would've preferred buying a larger compilation of untouched SEGA Master System classics for the $30 I spent.

A Great Remake and his return..
I do like the new graphics they put in this game, but I'm playing it on my PS4 Pro and the frame-rate is kinda choppy. But it doesn't bother me most of the time. If you like the original. You should check it out. My first time playing the original was on the Wii Virtual Console. But great game.
