Good basic outdoors use knife
This is very much unlike my old timer folding knife. The folder has been a good knife, lacking a lot of modern tacti-cool features, but mainly for utility use. It's only relevant in that it's been reliable for years and is simple but well made. This knife is also pretty simple, but shares no characteristics with the traditional knife. The knife comes with a very nice sheath with multiple tie down points and would be great on a backpack or on a belt, particularly when camping or hunting. It's not a huge knife, similar in size to a large folder, perhaps a bit larger than a classic gerber folder. Of course, it's not a folder, it's a fixed blade, so the knife is not designed to be concealed or really every-day-carried by most. If you wanted to conceal this knife you would find it a bit thick, but not crazy for boot concealment, or I guess you could use a jacket. I'd just say get a smaller folder. That sheath and the handle mate up pretty well and the sheath is pretty tough. You could break it, but you'd basically have to try.The blade is high carbon steel. It took a little work to sharpen, and held it sharp for a long time, which is very appropriate for a knife you would use to clean something you fished or hunted, but might not use every day to open boxes from Amazon. At any rate, it's a harder steel, both for good and bad.I love the handle. It's comfortable, easy to keep a grip when wet, also easy to see in the dark. There are ridges where your thumb goes when cutting or sawing with force, and finger groves on the other side. Even in gloves this knife is easily controlled. It's also a dense, tough material. It can take a chip or two if you literally hammer at it, but this knife will be in good condition in 20 years, I'm sure, both blade and handle. I like the blade style for cutting and think it works well for general purposes. For example, cooking when camping is actually pretty good. Cutting a tomato or a chicken is fine. This is not a premium knife. It's definitely not comparable to the very best brands. The steel will probably need to be oiled and dried once in a while. The knife is thicker, has no mechanism inside, is made of simple materials that are tough. But it's an honest simple product. You could use this for years, beat it up, and not feel too bad about any damage you get because it costs far less than a Spyderco or Benchmade. It's a great knife to actually use roughly every day, to have in a glove box or a bug out bag, and I plan to use it for a long time.Manage your expectations. It's inexpensive and it looks inexpensive, but it's a safe, easy to maintain, and effective.

Good Feel and a Generational Guarantee
I was excited to get this Old Timer because of the generational guarantee. If you are not familiar with that terminology, it is how they distinguish themselves a bit. It is a lifetime guarantee but it fits their tag line of "built for generations." I want to lead off with this - you will NOT be disappointed with an Old Timer knife. The knife description, at the time of my acquisition, said it was a 7.25 inch fixed blade (and it says 9 inches later on in the small print). Well, the box says 9 inches overall and I measured to verify - yep, it's 9 inches. The blade length is less than half the length at 3.7 inches, which is what you need for a caping knife. That shorter blade really helps you with the tedious work of removing hide for an animal you are going to mount. Being well above 6 feet tall, the handle has a good feel and is slip-resistant.One other thing about the knife that I really like is the grooves at the top of the handle (see photo). It's a great spot for you to rest your thumb that can help with fatigue as you spend extra time working on caping an animal. This knife is also perfect for smaller food sources like birds or squirrels or rabbits. I've not used it after a harvest yet but cannot wait to do so in January! Here is where I am going to disagree with some of the other reviews. I did not find that the knife was sharp right out of the box, so keep that in mind by allowing some time to sharpen before you put to use in the field.

Thick sturdy blade works wonders on the farm!
I work on a small farm and knives are necessity for cleaning & cutting herbs & vegetables as well as cutting ropes, ties, and all kinds of random crap. I have a few knives that are for specific herbs / veg but this is my all-purpose, go-to knife for everything else & then some. I was surprised at how thick the blade is. It's a very sturdy knife with a good edge. I've used it for months now and haven't needed to sharpen it once. It does seem like it will do very well in my electric sharpener, which is a huge bonus, but even better is that it doesn't need to be sharpened after all the use it's gotten. It comes with a sheath that hooks onto your belt / pocket easily and securely. I usually have it hung off the pocket of my bag when I to/from various parts of the farm. I've never once dropped it, which isn't something I can say for literally anything else. The current price is $12.79 which is a great price for such a well made knife. I definitely recommend it!

It will keel
The knife itself is great came sharpe and the grip texture on the handle is great but the clip on the plastic sheath is fragile and snaps if the knife is pulled out wrong or the knife is being removed from a belt to forcefully I’m giving it 5 stars in regards to the blade by itself

Really Amazing Hunting Knife
This Old Timer Hunter Knife is a really nice hunting and camping knife. I use this thing for everything when I am out camping or hunting. The knife is very sharp. This thing is really comfortable to use. The grip is very comfortable and it makes it easy to cut and slice anything. Even when skinning a buck, you can use the knife for an hour and still be very comfortable using it. This knife is very durable and it has pretty much been my sidekick for every outing that I have been on. Note that the marks on the blade in my photos are just from me using the the knife so much. The knife didn't come with any marks on the blade. I would highly recommend this knife for hunters and outdoors men & women.
