Authentic and sensitive story.
One of the best flying biographies I have read, vivid recollection of the night war and the sheer guts of these RAF fliers.Excellent

Worthwhile read for aviation buffs.
There are some great combat reports from a part of the RAF that did not get a huge amount of public recognition compared to 'The few' and bomber command. This man and his crewmates had a pretty harrowing time and flew in difficult circumstances with the instruments and aids at their disposal. A few bits of the book are repetitive but it is authentic, heartfelt and if you enjoy aviation of the era it is worth a read.

Poor quality
Excellent and fascinating little diary, very enjoyable to read but let down by the appalling amazon print on demand quality. Definitely recommend reading this little gem of a war diary but get it from somewhere else.

An understated memoir.
The author wrote his account shortly after the war, never getting the chance to add reflections or polish to what is a matter of fact record of his time during WW2. Published at the behest of his family as an untouched memoir, it has real value because it sharpens the contrast between the people of that era with all they had to endure and the world of today with its feeble clamour for safety from even the spoken word. The lack of gloss further strengthens the telling because the reader will know that it relies entirely on what was real and everyday rather than what was imagined.

Brilliant read.
This was a very interesting true tale. Written as he lived it. I read previous accounts from others who had read it. Mostly good but some not so. I thought it was deffinately worth reading. Would recommend to anyone wishing to hear one mans story of his life in the Royal Air Force during WWII.

At the beginning I didn't care much for the way he approached the subject of his career after leaving Bemrose Grammar School, however, his various exploits in the RAF were truly amazing as he had the knack of discribing the nitty gritty day to day a count of the RAF during wartime
