The PERFECT gate for a lil doggie, looks nice, right height!
I bought this gate for our 11 yr old Cairn terrier (non jumper, starting to have 'age issues'), so we could barricade him in our master bedroom (dude stays in there all the time anyway on his little fleece bed). He CAN jump, onto the sofa and stuff, but he will NOT jump over a gate. Our previous gate caused many shin damages, trips and falls, and general cussing and pain. Anyhoo, the gate is unfinished 'natural' wood; I reckon you could paint it if you want, but why? It's natural, it's nice, it's smooth, and it really does blend quite well with it's surroundings. Ours is on a white door with a white door frame; the carpet underneath is almond, so yeah it blends in very nicely! It was easily adjustable and easy to set up (just like any dog gate; adjust to fit the door width), and there is plenty of room for both dogs and all 5 cats to get through the opening when the gate is open. Our Cairn, 'Barney', has not had ONE accident since he's been barricaded in 'his' bedroom, and our larger dog 'Ripley' (mutt, 25 lbs) can fit just nicely through the gate and even SHE won't jump over this thing, and this girl is vertical!!! Heck even the fattest cats (one literally needs wheels to get around the house, yeah he fat) can get through the opening and jump the gate, to smother us humans during the night and visit the dogs while they're barricaded. ANYHOO I was THRILLED to find this product - VERY affordable, shipped quickly, looks OH SO NICE!!! Re: the DOOR itself, it has this pin-style latch; yeah someday it may break, just be careful with it, don't wrestle the dang thing... and when it does break? No biggie, a hop to any hardware store, ya get one of those hook and eye latches, nail it on; poof, fixed. Anyone who complains about the door hardware breaking, dudes really? Ya ever replaced anything broken in yer life?! Pretty simple fix! Great gate, happy controlled dogs, fat cats, un-damaged shins. What's not to like?

Buyer Beware
I ordered two gates. They both arrived broken (see photo). Both boxes were re-taped. It is very obvious that they were returns from previous buyers. The pieces were flying around in the box and the nuts & bolts were loose with a torn plastic bag that previously held them. The vendor never opened the boxes to inspect and repackage or they would have seen what I received. I was unable to find an 18" high gate elsewhere and as you can see from the second photo kept them. I did read the negative reviews but thought I might be lucky and again I needed a short gate. At 5' it still is not easy for me to step over. My friend & carpenter rebuilt the gates and spray painted them white. My toy poodle is 11 weeks old and 2.3 lbs. Once installed, they seem very sturdy considering they are made very cheaply and will keep my puppy contained. This vendor deserves a zero rating. I do not recommend this product.

Great for narrower openings
I installed this on an opening that is just a bit wider than a standard bedroom doorway and it feels very strong and durable. We actually have three other gates that are used at different times and locations in the house, this is one of the stronger feeling ones. My guess on the reviewers who commented about it being flimsy or getting broken is that they had it on a much wider opening. When it's opened to it's limit, or near, it doesn't have nearly the support as when it's down to 30" or close. There were no instructions, but it's pretty simple to figure out, especially if you've used a gate similar to this before. The adjusters on the side work great, getting it more secure than any of the other non-permanent gates I've used. You can put quite a bit of weight on it and it won't budge. The only area I can see having a weakness is the little wooden adjuster pegs that help keep it in place. I can see those breaking pretty early but if it happens I'll probably just put a screw into both railings to keep it from sliding, since I have no plans on using it in other locations that aren't the same width. The little opening works great also, and feels plenty secure.

Not very sturdy
I got this for my mini dachshund puppy and for my very narrow doorway. It looked awesome and worked good at first but I had to keep tightening the bolts and now it's been tightened so much it won't stay up. The doorway is awesome and closes good but it didn't always close tight because its only a handle with a spring that you pull. Sometimes the hole didnt line up exactly and I'd think it was closed but it wasn't. The height was perfect until she learned to climb over it! But when I got it, it was already broken and didnt feel like spending money to return it so I just used gorilla glue which worked but I had to keep re applying every week...Overall I'd say I liked the gate but wish it was better quality!

Works wonderfully
Opening and closing pet door all the time was getting to be a really bother. My dogs are small enough that this was a great solution. It is made of solid wood that withstood much chewing and they lost interest in chewing through before it broke. My only complaint is that the latch on the little door is of low quality and takes a bit too much concentration to use over and over. the hole that the spring loaded pin goes into is very small. Also the screw feet that press into the door frame to keep it in place fall out easily when you choose to take the gate down to clean the floor or something. Not a big problem but it keeps happening and I am afraid I'll lose one at some point.

You Get What You Pay For
I should have remembered the old adage you get what you pay for. I admittedly was looking for an inexpensive gate and this one seemed like a bargain. The bumpers are supposed to be adjustable but they do not actually screw into the unit. They just sit in the holes so they are NOT adjustable.I finally got the item to fit into my stairwell opening (the adjustable size claim is not 100% accurate. Your space must be a size to fit one of the sets of predrilled holes the knobs fit into) and after opening and shutting the door twice to make sure it swung over the carpet, it SNAPPED RIGHT OFF! Perhaps I merely received a defective one but I can assure you that I am taking it back to my local PetCo today.Save yourself the aggravation and spend a little more to get a better product. It did arrive very quickly and was in one piece.

Great!!!!!!
This gate is wondeful for us retired people! No more having to step over a high gate and possible tripping and no more moving the gate everytime we have to pick up the dog if she is on the 'wrong side' of the gate. Shipping was fast and the gate is well made. Thank you.

It seems more like they brushed an oil across it
Very cheaply made & poorly built. It arrived broken, as the dowels were loose & some even had come apart. Its a cheap wood that gives slivers if you aren't careful, despite the ad saying it was varnished. It seems more like they brushed an oil across it? or dipped it in some cheap glue mix for a "finish". Its wobbly & loose & stapled together. (So you can see how solid it is.) As its a pressure gate, the parts that screw in & add pressure to hold it place were stripped & loosen each time you adjust the gate in place. Best to spend more for a better quality gate...as this one is looney/dollar store quality. Great to look at, but falls apart in less than 10 minutes of buying. Plus the service with the company that sells these gates? Far less than stellar.

It seems to be fine now and is the perfect step over height that ...
We did read reviews before buying and knew there were some quality issues. The little door in the gate broke while we were putting the gate together but we quickly glued and clamped it. It seems to be fine now and is the perfect step over height that keeps our bunny out of the living room and both cats can still wander through the entire house.

Don’t buy it!
Should have listened to the reviews... I received mine broken in multiple different places and with no assembly instructions. definitely not worth the price, it is very flimsy.
