English Medieval Embroidery: Opus Anglicanum

Stunning book
I couldn't get to the exhibition (usual problems with trains!), but this book is the next best thing, with the added advantage that I can look at it whenever I want! The photos are wonderful and in such detail that in many cases, the individuals stitches can be clearly seen. It covers a wide selection of pieces and is a valuable resource for the embroiderer, history student or art enthusiast, and for everyone who loves to marvel at the skills of those earlier embroiderers who worked without the benefit of artificial lighting, consistent dye lots and modern needles.A beautifully produced book which will be both a pleasure to read and a source of information.

The book is full of useful information about stitches and the photos of the pieces ...
WOW! I went to see the exhibition at the V and A and was taken aback by the skill of the embroiderers, not just the stitching but the design of some of the pieces. The fact that they have survived and been treasured shows the quality of the work. The book is full of useful information about stitches and the photos of the pieces are true representations. If you look at the cvoe photo you can get an idea of how skilled the work is.

Brilliant for the textile enthusiast and lover of history.
Fantastic book. I was lucky enough to have this given to me on my Birthday. The colour photographs are brilliant. The whole book is well set out and a treasure to own. I just with it had been available when I did my City & Guilds Embroidery, as the History of Opus Anglicanum was part of the course.

Beautiful book
This book is everything I hoped for - a definitive guide to Opus Anglicanum. The large format and many closeup photos of the stitching add to its value as a source of inspiration for an embroiderer. This book joins my other great book ' English Embroidery - Twixt Art and Nature' as must have embroidery books for serious lovers of historical embroidered textiles

This is an excellent work on a fascinating exhibit. Wish I could have seen it at the Victoria and Albert.

More than a coffee table book
Expensive but worth it. There are extensive colour photos of ever item in the exhibition and plenty of erudite text too. I've really been enjoying browsing this. It is heavy and large, so might need a table at which to read it.

Un libro precioso sobre bordado medieval
Tarda mucho en llegar, por eso no le doy 5 estrellas, pero el libro es maravilloso para los que amamos el bordado.

Good reference
Good textbook written as a guide to a Victoria and Albert Museum exhibit, it describes the pieces in the show. I would like to have read more about the materials and techniques. The photographs are excellent.

This is an important scholarly book presenting in fine detail the stunning array of fabrics and their remarkable needlework assembled at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2016-2017. I visited the exhibition twice when on holiday in London. Because I knew that this exhibition catalogue would not fit in my suitcase, I took a photo of its publication details to order the book when I returned home. Although it is not my field, several aspects are of great interest to me. I've learned a great deal, and intend to refer to the articles and beautiful photographs frequently.
