How to Apologize

Fun and Insightful
I got this book from the library. We go every few weeks and grab everything off one shelf and read it. This one really stood out! It explains apologies in a way that made sense to my 6 and 10 year old boys and they read it over and over. The illustrations are cute so I honestly thought it would be pedantic but it made me laugh and nod my head as I read it. Well written and well illustrated. We decided to make it a permanent part of our home.

Great illustrations, good point, but not organized?
I think this book is very important and I was excited to read it to my son as he's at a stage where he says sorry over everything or nothing at all. But I was disappointed. The structure of the book doesn't make sense- to have incomplete sentences on multiple pages before they're completed seems weird to me. There are so many different parts to read and it doesn't feel organized at all.Page 3: "Whether you're big..." illustration of car accident on pages 3 and 4. Page 5: "or small. And when you've made a mistake that has hurt someone or something, the right thing to do is apologize." No hate to the authors but why didn't an editor catch how poorly written this was? "Whether you're big or small -" finish the sentence or include it in the first sentence of the book! "And-" Why start the sentence with an "and" when it's not even necessary? I have probably read about 200+ books to my son since he was born and I was shocked to read such a disorganized one. This book has so much potential with the message and the illustrations but it's executed in a really disappointing way. When reading a book to a child, you read the sentence and then pause to notice the illustrations before going to the next page. Even if it's a tiny pause! But you'd have to skip ahead multiple pages to finally finish a sentence. Not to mention, the dialogue is weirdly placed as well. Why have three insincere apologies and not explain what would have made them sincere? Or have more examples of sincere apologies?I started off rating this at 4 but the more I explained the deficits of this book, the less stars I felt it deserved.

Exactly as the title says
It is great for bringing attention to Apologies. Many children don't understand why one must apologize, and this is good for that and it helps them understand to take accountability. I really look forward to using this book this year as a teaching resource for kindergarten.
