Jessica Jones: Avenger

Some Extra Jessica Jones Stories and Not Much Else
Enjoyable stories and random issues that Brian Michael Bendis wrote with Jessica Jones as a lead or side character. They really just tie in the events after Jessica Jones: The Pulse up to the new series that starts with Jessica Jones: Uncaged! The stories are fun, but very simple. They no not achieve the innovation and noir tone of Alias, nor the emotional storytelling of The Pulse, but as a tie in of extra short stories in comic book form, they're pretty neat! The art varies from great, harkening back to Alias, to amateur, reminiscent of The Pulse's cartoonier style rather than the grittier and more realistic tones of the detective noir likenesses found within Alias.NOTE: I ONLY recommend this for big fans of Bendis that HAVE TO HAVE READ all 4 Jessica Jones: Alias books AS WELL AS Jessica Jones: The Pulse FIRST!

Jessica Jones Rules! (Read Alias)
Big Jessica Jones fan from Alias and The Pulse. This throws in her appearances from the various Avengers books that she and Luke Cage made appearances in.Personally my favorite has to do with her having a crush on teenaged Peter Parker when they were in high school and him not having a clue. It leads to some entertaining interactions between Spider-Man and Jessica Jones, and in other books Spider-Man and Luke Cage.

a disjointed Jessica Jones greatest hits album that cashes in on the Netflix series...go read the original issues
4 stars for the stories1 star for the repackaging of these storiesIf you have read Bendis's Avengers, then you already have read these stories. During the pre-order phase, neither Marvel nor Amazon stated that this was a collection of OLD stories repackaged to capitalize on Netflix's fantastic tv series starring this drunken and financially strapped wash-up super hero turned private eye (spoiler: her life eventually improves). The stories are very good - Brian Michael Bendis created Jessica Jones and turned her into a very compelling character that was quite well rounded. He supplied her with some of the most wonderful dialogue that Marvel offered up in the 00s (particularly in her scenes with Luke Cage...it's probably the best written romantic relationship in Marvel). This collection is disjointed though - it puts together a series of disparate stories. If you like Jessica Jones, go read all three trades of Alias, every issue of the Pulse and Bendis's entire New Avengers run. You'll be pleased.

Ouch.
I'm a huge fan of Alias, and a great despiser of Bendis' Avengers, but even so, I didn't consider how much of a gamble this collection would be.Bendis is one of the few writers where their strength can sometimes be their weakness. His uncanny and naturalistic dialogue shines in books like Daredevil and X-Men, but that same style comes off as annoying and obtrusive in Avengers. Here, the auto-pilot B.S.-speak makes me cringe in every discontinuous issue. Each chapter is a slice-of-life piece centered around Jessica Jones living with the Avengers, and none of it is necessary. This afterthought to Alias can't hold a candle to its predecessor.

The still obscure Jessica Jones reads pretty subtle here.
I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this. I enjoyed it because of the non-superheroics. Let me explain. If this was a story about an average non-superhero Joe/ Jolene then I wouldn’t have found it nearly as interesting but as most of these collected issues deal with Jessica Jones in her relationship with Luke Cage (Powerman) and their baby and the dilemmas it causes them to think about and react to this added spin of “real family life” felt fresh and even real. Most of the issues seemed to be written by Brian Michael Bendis and were from a period around the Secret Invasion timeline but though they are not chronological or even taken from the same books they have a pretty coherent feel to them. I’ve read some of them before so I didn’t really learn much new about Jessica Jones, and though the art fit the book it had a certain quality to it that made it feel like it lacked focus as if the camera setting was slightly blurry, and for these reasons the book gets docked a star. But a good read if you want a little more heart to your superhero storyline. Collecting: New Avengers (2004) #s 38, 47, Annual 3; New Avengers (2010) #s 8, 31; What If Jessica Jones Had Joined the Avengers?; and a couple of other snippets.

I wish it was half as good as Alias
I wish it was half as good as Alias. Jessica seems passive, the story happens to her and it ain't even that interesting. Wouldn't buy it or recommend it.

Wow shes back and better than ever
I personally love the way this book has been written , it would have been nice to see a few of Jessica's adventure's as Jewel but overall a very good read. It got a 5star rating for me as I love the way that portray Jones, ads almost a lackluster antihero . she should be given her own film of before she met the purple man and carry on with her TV series I love the way with her every thing is stripped down to the bare bones such a strong storyline.
