Sculpting Santa

This is a great book and I would recommend it for beginners like myself.

She spends plenty of time showing good photos and explaining in details what the pictures are trying to show you. This book does not spend a lot of time on choosing clay, tools, etc. And … I like that about it. I like it because you can read that in so many polymer clay books that at times it feels like wasted ink. Michele gets straight to the point and dives into the sculpting aspect.Sculpting portions include: Santa’s face, teeth, ears, neck, and hands with meticulous details to make a realistic hand. There are even some good details on adding washes of color to your baked Santa parts. This is a wonderful book. The high quality step X step photo's throughout are so helpful. This isn't a book necessarily for a beginner, but with some confidence could work it out. It doesn't have a pattern for the Santa body, so it's up to you to create that on your own. Michele does give some suggestions for the body and how to achieve that as well, ideas and pictures of how to dress Santa and embellish the finished doll. I especially like the nod to the ethnic Santa which is often missing in books. All in all, I really like this book and the sculpting will be made much easier with all the great photo's. One thing that I would have liked, is if it had a spiral back so the book would stay open at the page you're working from. A minor detail because the rest of the book is so good.

For the cost, I was expecting a little more. I was hoping for more on the armatures and assembly of the Santa’s. Guess, I’ll find it on the internet. The pictures were very nice!
