Quite coarse - leave nails rough - however they have their purposes.
I never find crystal files quite abrasive enough for the speed of nail shaping I am looking for so only use them to seal after using other files. I was looking for a file to replace an older and excellent Leighton Denny file that came with a gift set hoping they'd be similarly easy on the nails.Unfortunately, these are very coarse on both sides and my nails feel rough and torn after filing. My previous grey colour LD file had just the right amount of abrasion to quickly remove material but still keep the nail feeling smooth and finished afterwards. Sadly these are not a suitable replacement but I can't be completely negative as they do have their uses. If you want to remove a lot of nail quickly these are good as long as you finish off with a less abrasive file. I do like using them on my toe nails.

NOT METAL - but I've not broken it yet after a year
Disappointed when I received - I expected this to be on a METAL base - it is on a plastic(??) sandwich base which feels like it will easily snap.The filing surface itself is OK, the fine and coarse sides are a good idea.Not worth the hassle of changing it considering the price, just wish to warn potential purchasers as the spec does not indicate construction.Still working well a year later.
