Is it loose around the waist? i have a bigbelly and try to hide it.

Yes, it's fairly loose around the waist but if you are packing a gut, it will show it off if you select a size that doesn't allow much give. It will stretch and be very comfortable but won't help you hiding things if you're bulging out beyond its cut. I'd opt for the larger of any two sizes you may be considering if it's hiding a belly that is your concern.

Is the material too thin, like see through?

It is not see through. It's very comfortable, like wearing a nightgown.
