The is an excellent reference book about Sigma lenses comparable to Canon's EF Lens Work III. I highly recommend.

A bit long in the tooth now
This is an excellent and well-written summary review of Sigma camera lenses, as the range stood when the book was published in 2010.Inevitably now, three years on it is getting a bit out of date. For this reason, I chose a copy being sold via Amazon at a large discount on the cover price; otherwise I wouldn't have bought it at all.Nonetheless, there is quite a bit of detail about current models and (perhaps in this context more usefully) now discontinued ones which may perhaps be picked up on the second hand market. It shows an astonishing range of lenses is available from just this one manufacturer, a significant proportion of them exotic and specialist ones which would not normally be seen in retailers catalogues. For each lens, the author gives a brief account of general and technical details, his experience using it (he claims to write only about lenses he has personally used), a graphic depicting overall image quality, summary verdict and, where appropriate, useful details such as peculiarities of auto/manual focus selection or variations between models suited to different camera mounts and sensor sizes. The book is supplemented with more general purpose sections on applications for each lens type for example composition, subject types, interior shots, bokeh and focus, close-ups etc. Many colour illustrations, including at least one of each lens model, are included.Sections are appended on lenses that were discontinued at the time of publication (interestingly, all zoom models) and a list of websites mainly listing equipment manufacturers. If you are thinking about purchasing a Sigma lens (current or discontinued) this book provides a useful first stop to look at your options. It does not, however, substitute for a full review and comparison with other makes of lens, such as may be found in photo magazines or websites.

Good overall textbook on Sigma
I wanted a general listing and introduction to Sigma lenses to understand the range available. This is it. Each current lens is described and a subjective evaluation given. Also includes MTF charts for each lens, There is a list of out of date lenses. The book has limitations: MTF charts as published are of limited use. I would have liked more information even if subjective on distortion, as this is a major feature of wide angle and zoom lenses. I would have like more information on dates of lenses, and an expanded list of out of date ones with their major features and approx dates available. As some lenses have been through many versions, more details on this would have been useful. As a paperback intro to the range, this does the job well.
