Very funny, very odd
Martin Short, the adult actor, plays a pre-teen problem child in this comedy. Clifford's uncle is trying to convince a would-be fiance that he wants kids, which carries the plot-line as Clifford is a nephew from hell, but his uncle can't complain without looking like the bad guy. The humor in this movie is weird to say the least. My siblings and I watched this a lot growing up and when we try to show it to people in adulthood we get very mixed reactions. Most people find it funny, but say at some point how weird it is. Clifford's vocabulary and diction is not typical of a kid. He says stuff like, "Thank you ever so kindly" and while hyperventilating, cries out, "A whole gang of chocolate! I need it badly!". When his uncle picks him up at the airport, he pretends to be sleeping, and upon waking as if from a nightmare shouts, "Don't reject me!" This is part of what makes the movie funny, because his uncle is totally weirded out and no one else seems to catch Clifford in all of his manipulative weirdness. Generally, people who like Martin Short or humor like Chevy Chase's or Steve Martin's (sarcastic quips, goofy facial expressions) will like this movie. Moving a generation forward, the weird factor of this movie is similar to Billy Madison, so if you were a fan of that movie, you'd probably like this (more family friendly) movie. The extremity to which this "kid" goes to get his way, and the creepy stuff he says, work for the movie because the "child" is actually an adult actor. If a real child had been cast in this movie, it would have been in poor taste and really uncomfortable. Just one example is the brief scene where he explains that he knows what a "rug" is because his teacher used to wear a hair piece. Clifford says he and the other kids would play with it at recess and follows up with "Miss Gathercole, the art teacher, used to borrow it too...That would be for different reasons..." and glances sideways at his uber creeped out uncle. If an actual ten year old actor said that line it would be really really off, but Martin Short pulls off such a funny character. Everyone I've watched this with has gotten a laugh out of it, so it seems to appeal to a broad audience. Definitely worth a watch!

DINOSAUR WORLD!!
This is a Ronin Flix, Scorpion bluray release! From what I looked into, they help create blurays from cult classics and hard-to-find films which is really cool! I'm so happy with this purchase! My original DVD stopped working but with this copy, the overall quality is 10x better so it was definitely worth it and played without any issues. Hurry and buy your copy before they sell out during the holiday season like last year!

entertaining
Martin short was successful as playing a child brat. It was easy to overlook that he was too old for the part.I would recommend the movie for laughs and lessons in life.

The Director Didn't Get the Joke??
I mean, damn. How does a film get THIS fouled up? How? Maybe the director just did not get the joke. It's hard to believe, but the idea of a "bad seed" is inherently funny, especially if a genius like Martin Short is playing the "devil child." So nobody notices that he's an adult... and that's a problem for somebody? That's too "avant guarde?"Hollywood is a place where really smart people go to get really rich. You don't turn over a project like this to a dummy, but in this case, somehow, somebody up the chain of command just did not understand surreal humor or dark humor or, well, humor. They tried to "dumb it down" to make it appeal to, uh, "typical" people and all the laughs went out of it. You can hear the hiss of escaping comedic impact-- listen closely...Damn it. Damn it. It makes me mad to think that this abomination was one of the things that contributed to Martin Shorts, um, career "challenges." I don't know who fouled up what could have been a very funny movie. but somebody owes somebody a LOT of money. Truly, a missed opportunity. I could see where this was TRYING to go, but it didn't go there because some dummy was too literal-minded to keep the ship on course.Seriously-- how can you fail to see that an adult being treated like a "child" is just an exaggerated version of what goes on everyday in Mom's basement all across America (and the world?). How dumb do you have to be to miss the way that "Clifford" is a satire of American manners and a spoof of movies where children are considered naturally funny, innocent and cute just because they are children. Clearly, this film was originally intended to spoof the American child-obsession and the idea that kiddies are always right and "Will someone think of the CHILDREN!!" being the ultimate argument. Then some dummy didn't get the joke and we get this truly un-funny, awful movie. What a waste of talent.
