What is the max temp? Is this good for bread or only a meat thermometer?

Regarding temperature range, the write-up says: Temperature Range: -58°F~572°F (-50°C~300°C) I have never used it in such extreme temperatures, so I can only quote what they claim. The advertisement implies that the thermometer can be used for candy, deep fry, "food", etc. so I don't see why it wouldn't work for bread. It reads very quickly and has a bright display and good grip.

Is the probe removable/replaceable? 4.25" probe length is insufficient for deep readings; need 7" to 8" for turkeys.

Honestly, I don't know. I repeatedly check the leg meat (i75) and the white meat (165), that is if i didn't use a 'Meater". Checking deeper into the bird is not my method - I am more interested in breast meat and this unit is ok for any size turkey.

Can attach the leather case to my belt

I don't really see how this would attach to your belt to be honest. I also think that the ThermoPro Lightning One-Second Instant Read Meat Thermometer, Calibratable Kitchen Food Thermometer with Ambidextrous Display, Waterproof Cooking Thermometer for Oil Deep Fry Smoker BBQ Grill Brand: ThermoPro which is newer by the way and right now almost the same price with no case but I don't really use the case all that much.

Is "lock" button there so a cook could insert probe into cooking food, press "lock," then remove the probe & read the display close to their eyes?

Yes, it is there so you can remove the probe, then read the temperature afterwards. Press once to lock the current temperature for 5 seconds, within 5 seconds press again to unlock.

I bought this as a gift, as this was the specific one the person wanted. However, I own on that looks almost identical, and has identical functionality, for about 1/4 of the price. Both units read to within 0.1 degrees of each other (and forget what anyone on YouTube tells you: your steak does not need to be cooked to within 0.1 degrees). Summary: well made, nice display, probably not worth the price unless you simply want this particular unit.

I do a lot of cooking and BBQing. this is perfect! I cook food to temperature for perfect doneness . The price was great as far as the value I get. Very easy to use, just open the probe up insert just past the tip and it give you temp very quickly. I'm old person and I can read the display very easy inside or outside.
