Quite simply, one of The best art books bar none!
If you have ever been stuck on design and composition, this book is for you. If you have ever wanted some fantastic tips on fusing or what to do if that goes a badly wrong, this book us for you. If you have ever mad a project top and let it sit thinking, we'll now how do I finish it, this book is for you.If you haven't already guessed where this is going I will simply say this book is by far and away such a lovely, comprehensive site guide to the art of quilting I can't recommend it highly enough. Not only that; the lessons she teaches can be applied to any art medium. Art journals? Yes. Quilting? Yes. Painting? Yes . And her hand embroidery tips are more than worth the price of the book! And did I mention that it's truly inspiring too? Not just "oooh look at her pretty quilts" but "Hey! I think I can do that now!" such "ah ha" moments are rare in art books and even less rare in quilting books. Ms. Boschert gently guides you thru the sometimes overwhelming challenge of pulling fabrics all the way thru to bound and finished project. All the while gently getting that stubborn paradigm of project preciousness to shift so in its place the serendipity of true creation can occur.

I love this book!
I am blown away by this book. I am only on Page 18 and already love it so much.As an art supply-aholic/book-aholic I have never been able to control my impulsive emotional purchases. And sadly, in the book department am usually a bit disappointed. Or very disappointed.I did originally skim through the book and loved what I saw. Decided to start from the beginning and not miss a word. As mentioned above, am only on Page 18 and am so inspired and motivated to start. Not only is there excellent information but the page layouts are wonderful -- so beautifully designed and love those little clipped notes of suggestions.I have been doing appliqué and embroidery for about 7 months now. Not a total newbie but not an experienced quilter. This book is a winner!

Good Thing in a Small Package
I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend in my art quilting group. I read it straight through once--it is a fairly quick read, at under 100 pages, but very engaging, and packed with lots of visuals, examples, suggestions and ideas about ways to incorporate symbols, text, and other elements into an art piece. Now I am going back through the book and really studying the content, and doing the exercises that are included for each chapter, under the heading "See What Happens". While I have no desire to replicate another person's work, I do benefit from practice and prompts, being a self-taught art quilter, and relatively new to it. And I am always interested to see what other people are doing in this medium. Boschert's book has plenty of suggestions for further exploration of the principles of design, color and composition. And she is a very accomplished artist who is eloquent about it. This book is going on the shelf with others I will return to again and again, for information and inspiration. Highly recommend.

Well written book on Art Quilting and Collage
Well written art quilt book with lots of sections for the reader to try out techniques. Excellent layout and photos, good ideas, intelligent narrative. I am taking a class with the author at the Sisters Quilt Show (Oregon) in 2017, and I purchased the book to augment my knowledge and get a preview of the class. I am not disappointed and am very excited about the upcoming class.Update (7/4/2017): I am currently taking a 2-day class with the author at Sister, OR annual Quilter's Affair and Outdoor Quilt Show. Deborah is a delightful and informative teacher. I'm learning new techniques and new ways to look at and think about found objects and how they can be incorporated in an art quilt. If you ever get a chance to take one of her classes, don't hesitate to jump at the opportunity.

I love the inspiration messages and freedom it allows you to ...
I just got this book shipped from Amazon. I love the inspirational messages and freedom it allows you to experiment as a free thinking quilter. It's filled with lots of close up photos and beautiful abstract like art quilts and talks a lot about surface design. I enjoyed reading about different art supplies and techniques you can add to your quilts, if you're willing to experiment as I love to do. The book is filled with abstract art quilts and explains how to use different stitches and other techniques to enhance quilt collages, such as the use of: threads, paints, stitches, fusible, hanging, and labels. If you love to experiment and try new things and let your imagination run free then you will enjoy this very colorful, well-written, personalized, quilt book. Be ready to think outside the box. Thanks Deborah..Jackie H.

Was not inspired
Art is certainly in the eye of the beholder. I prefer nature related art and meaningful placement of subject matter, and this book disappointed in that regard. Far from what I expected so I returned it.

Inspiration and techniques in a visual treat.
Saw this lady demonstrate her work on The Quilt Show....and felt I needed her book. Very different from other Collage books I have in that it is more than the Arty Oppinions/Tastes usually presented. She has a 'formula' to use the fun of Collage to express her message within a specific style of composition and symbolism and it works. Very simple pictures can tell a real story as well as being pleasing to the eye. Lots of instruction for the beginner quilter and inspiration for the experienced quilter who wants to experiment. Wish I had a design wall though to really enjoy this freedom of creativity. The book is full of tips to help any sewer or quilter and she writes with an encouraging and relaxed style. Yes...worth adding to your quilting library.
