Screech Owl/Kestrel Box with a 3-inch entrance hole. Comes complete with 1 bag of wood shavings and placement instructions. It also features a special perch for owls to roost on and look out. Larger houses 4H, 5H, 6H and 6BH all have shavings in them because normally these birds do not bring anything but feathers to the nest. All houses need to be cleaned out before the next season starts. We suggest doing it in the spring so the birds can roost in them during the winter. 22-inch by 8.25-inch by 11.25-inch. Stovall products feature all cedar construction, stainless steel and dichromate plated screws, washers, hooks and chains, hand sanded, assembled with screws, many products coated with wood protector which accents the wood grain and the natural warmth of cedar. Environmentally green practices – hand sorted down graded lumber. The Shop is heated with scrap wood, cooled with natural shade and insulation, nestled in a glen among 25+ acres of beech/maple/oak forest. Rumored staffing of woodland gnomes with a payroll of nuts and berries is still not factual.

Great box
I have a couple of these. One has been occupied by flying squirrels (we're in Pennsylvania) which are too cute to kick out, so I bought another. We'll see how this goes.Construction is great - even comes with a bag of wood chips. Just think through how you're going to mount it before you're on the ladder. Small enough to think "that won't be hard", but large enough to have an "oh crap" moment if you lose your balance.

Nice solid owl house.
Nice solid owl house. I actually ordered 2 different houses, and I'm so glad I did. This house came with good details on how to mount the house (height, etc.) but the other house came with a few other more personalized suggestions like East facing and personal experiences with birds. So if you have room for 2, try 2 different manufacturers! Also, this house came with a generous bag of nest fill.

Patience pays off
Very well-made - getting it in the tree/facing the right direction/the perfect distance from our house (not too close but not so far away that we can't watch the owls) was a bit of a crapshoot... it sat unoccupied for a year and I began to wonder if we would ever have a tenant. Then just this week, voila!! Cute little face peering out - been watching the male and female in the evenings and our kids cannot wait for the owlets to hatch later this spring.

Owl moved in
Patience paid off. After 18 months a screech owl has moved in. Product is well constructed and it works. Added a small "porch" to the front and have seen the owl perched on it.

Build it and they will come. Not necessarily Screech Owls though!
Nice box. Put it up one afternoons and Great Crested Flycatchers moved in and started nest building the next morning. Oh well. I've been watching them come in and out with beaks full of bugs for the babies.

My Own Raptor Family
I put my screech owl box up this winter, about 15 feet high, facing south and backing up to a grove of trees. The squirrels loved this thing. They were in and out of it all the time, and they would frequently sit inside poking their heads out of the hole staring at me. That wasn't what I had in mind, but it was kind of cute in its own way. Then last week I was working in the yard, and I noticed the squirrel was staring at me. I mean really staring at me, like he was mad at me or something. Then I noticed his eyes were really big. And gold. I was contemplating the prospect of an angry squirrel with large golden eyes, when he burst forth from the hole in a flapping of wings and disappeared into the trees.I began sitting outside in the evening, just watching. After comparison with pictures on the web, there is no doubt that two Eastern Screech Owls are living in my owl box. I wanted to include pictures, and I will follow up if I get some, but right now they are only coming out after it is too dim to photograph.I have no prior experience with any kind of bird house. I just bought it and followed the instructions, which were to put the wood shavings in and nail it to a tree. It couldn't have been easier, and the box looks great, blending in with the surroundings. If you live in the right area and have the right kind of yard, and you don't want to build it yourself, I strongly recommend this Stovall 6H Screech Owl Box. It was money well spent.

No owls yet but this is a gorgeous owl home
I'm very pleased with this box, though in 3 months no owls have moved in. But I don't think that's the fault of this box. It is well made and well thought through, easy to clean and easy to hang. And it looks great. Whoever built it took pride in their craftsmanship and it shows.Recommended.

Solidly constructed box
This is a solidly-constructed nesting box with removable screws to make cleaning easier. No luck with any screech owls yet although I've seen them in my area, but the flickers are eyeing it with envy ;)
