I would give it 6 stars if I could
Wow. Just Wow! Just came from a five day camping trip and this was the most helpful item there. I bought them because of the convenience of not having to boil water and let me tell you, people with boring MREs were SO jealous! Also, the taste was good! No play dough or cardboard yuckiness. Love love love

Great meals. Love the self heating envelope.
The meals are actually quite tasty. Amazing self heating is versatile because you can use the hot liquid to warm up other stuff like instant coffee inside the envelope.

Heat well but got tired of the taste quickly
These Omeals heat up really well, even better than the civilian MREs I have. The hashbrowns and bacon was decent but I was sick of it on the 2nd day of my hike and tossed it into the campfire. The heating element gets rather large and does not burn so you can't just burn it up in the campfire, you have to hike it out.

Self Heats and Tastes Good
Does what it says it will do. Pro tip is to add a dash or two of salt to the water to make it self heat a little more vigorously, and therefore a little hotter. End product is quite good, and since you aren't actually exposing the food to the water you can be a little less careful where you get the water from - which can be important if you're hiking/camping somewhere that water is harder to get.

Yummy. Well heated.
My 13 year-old son LOVED this. He thought it was delicious. The self-heating aspect worked well for the hashbrowns.

Surprisingly good, real ready to eat food, innovative and minimalist packaging.
I'm a big outdoors person and therefore consumer of freeze dried foods and meals-ready-to-eat (MRE). Sometimes while deep into to mountains and valley on a simple backpacking trip you really crave a hot meal, and I've tried La Briute in the past. However, the problem with that was inconsistent heating, sometimes the meat would still be cold (yuck). The product here features a pretty simple resealable pouch with a tiny steam vent on top, and the result is an evenly cooked packaging of the enclosed food packaging inside. The food taste isn't Michelin-star food, obviously, but relative to other MREs I've had in the past it's pretty damn good, the potato pieces are actual potatos, and the bacon looks and tastes like real bacon. The hashbrowns & bacon flavor makes an excellent pick-me-up if you're doing minimalist camping on a cold morning.Downside is that it's obviously not as light as freeze dried, portions are on the smaller side, and you still need a water source (1/4 cup) to fully submerge the heat pack and get the steam going. But all-in-all I would definitely buy this again.

Really tasty but heavy and a bit unreliable
We've used these on a couple of winter camping trips and found them to be very tasty and satisfying as something to break up the monotony of eating oatmeal every day for breakfast. The drawback is they're relatively heavy for a dehydrated product. That's because they some kind of chemical heating element that will boil cold water without the need to light your stove. That's pretty convenient (and entertaining) but one of the six packets we consumed had a "dud" heating element, which made me question the wisdom of hauling these things up 4500 feet of elevation just for a hot meal.
