I’m sorry to post something sad, but I think it’s important for others to know that this can happen. A goldfinch got caught in one of my feeder poles today and its leg was badly broken.I took it to a wildlife rehabilitation center, but the vet said the most humane thing would be to euthanize it. I’m absolutely devastated that this has happened. The manufacturer should have placed a weld at the joint, and the fact that they didn’t makes this item dangerous for wildlife. Definitely do not recommend for outdoor use.

I liked that it was very easy to install and the result was beautiful and, as far as I can tell, is holding well. It has been up for about a week with no issues. Mouth of clamp was wide enough to fit most deck railing.Bought another and it's basically the same, although it came in a GIGANTIC box that could have held 50 of them. Not too sure what that was about. It seems fine so far and is going to hold two hummingbird feeders.

Update: the squirrels figured out right away how to jump straight to the feeder. The stand would need to be much taller (or the baffle, which is 18 inches wide, much wider) to stop them. On the other hand, never got around to reinforcing it, and even with the squirrels jumping and hanging out on one side, hasn't toppled, so it's strong after all.Original review: Got it to hang a bird feeder; our previous feeder pole was inclined, not vertical, and the squirrels would climb it. By itself, this pole isn't tall enough to deter squirrels, as they will still jump to the middle part and get to the feeder. But once you add the baffle it's all good. It's visually appealing, and you can choose what orientation the hangers have. Only problem is that it's weak. Has a problem holding just 1 pound of bird seed (tilts to that side) and when the birds land and take off, the whole thing sways a lot. Will fix by adding a metal mending plate at the base, but would be nice not to have to go through that extra effort.

I had to modify the 1/4 in. steel stock used for the main extension. Two standard hanging baskets caused a lot bending because of the length. 3/4 in. iron pipe works well at the top but you have to notch and shim the bottom where it meets the bracket. Not Forged in Fire quality, but the mod looks good with the right flat spray paint. The bottom bracket is very sturdy. I used a 1/2 lag bolt for extra mechanical attachment (not supplied). Seems to me that 3/8 or 1/2 steel stock would be better for the length of the extension at 46 in.

I bought 2 of these. I don’t like the way the knobs are made. They don’t work for my deck railing. I had to use tie wraps & a bungee cord on one of them to attach it to my deck.One attached perfectly, but, the other one not so perfect! As you can see in the pics the knobs are not all that good they way they are built. There is no room to use them because of the way the deck is built. There is room for a screw in the top part of this to secure it to the deck railing, but, I do not want to put a hole in my railing.
