How durable is the push button? I generally try to avoid pliers with a button like that

The button is easily replaceable, and is simple, do yourself a favor, buy a plier and see for yourself. The XS does not have a push button btw, it operates more like a pair of tongue and groove channel locks. But it's not to gue and groove, it's proprietary

Can someone tell me if this can help to twist open a 3" canning jar lid? I need help in opening jars.

Some workable answers already. I have used strap wrenches, although they are a little bit unwieldy. A large pair of these Cobra pliers would work, although it would likely damage the lid. Soft-jaw pliers would be better (I think that both Crescent and Knipex sell these). This inexpensive handheld item (search on Amazon) is supposed to good up to about 3": "Bottle Opener for Twist-Off Type Caps." The best choice, it appears to me, would be this inexpensive cabinet undermount unit that is supposed to be good up to 6" (and is rated at 4.8): "The Grip Jar Opener."

The pliers came wrapped up in a basic plastic bag. also, there is 1-2mm of side-play between the handles. is this normal? im worried i got fake or 2nd

Is it normal that Knipex Xs wobbles about 1mm on the tip? They don't always align correct

Almost all pliers wobble a little. Knipex wobble less than most. My Knipex 4" pliers wobble about 1/2" but even 1 mm is less than another brand of a similar small pliers which I won't name.
